Thailand dismisses fears of flooding replay
Reuters, BANGKOK

BANGKOK: -- Floodwater has breached an industrial estate to the east of the Thai capital, stirring fears that foreign and Thai companies face a repeat of the devastation suffered in 2011, but the estate’s operator said water levels were manageable.

Thailand is the world’s largest producer of hard-disk drives and a big supplier of electronic components and car parts.

Flooding in 2011 killed more than 800 people and caused major disruption to industry, cutting economic growth to just 0.1 percent. Global firms, including Apple Inc and Toyota Motor Corp, also faced supply disruptions.

Amata Corp, Thailand’s biggest industrial estate developer, said its industrial park in Chonburi Province, 114km east of Bangkok, was operating normally, despite minor flooding. Chief executive Wikrom Krommadit yesterday said that water up to a height of 15cm had entered the park and accumulated in three areas, but had not hit operations.

“Water levels in the park are stable and all our factories are working as normal,” Wikrom said. “If the situation gets worse, we plan to divide the park in two sections to build a temporary flood way to allow water to flow through.” [read more...]

Working normal, my hairy arse !! What a complete pile of shit !!!! I work at Amata Nakorn and across the motorway, Phases 6,7,8,9 are mostly cut off, with the water in the Kubota factory waist high. Will post some photos of the road in front of the Triumph Motorcycles factory and the corner where the NOK factory is. Also, the water level is still rising, maybe 10-15cm higher than yesterday.

Looks like Clockman's post was correct! "Just a little "white lie" to stop everyone worrying, and maybe expecting us to do something". Perfectly acceptable and par for the course here.

New tropical storm developing into typhoon Nari / Santi now east of the Philippines. Forecasted to intensify into category 1 or 2 typhoon in the next few days. After passing Philippines it will head for Hue, Vietnam. If it doesn't significantly weaken by then, one can expect some heavy rainfall in the Eastern parts of Thailand a little over a week from now.

This sort of BS doesnt go down well with other countries as they are not so ignorant of whats actually happening in Thailand

Thailand is killing/killed off its western tourism, from what I see in Pattaya

Now its feeding BS to other nations and may soon face the harsh reality that nobody believes them and it will hurt trade and further co-operation, let alone failing at an UN seat applied for.

It's like they live in a bubble... They really need to wake up to the reality that every time one of them opens their mouths; It's live, online and worldwide.

It is as if every day is opposite day here. I listen to what is said, think of the opposite outcome, and see the truth as a result.

If only these officials though before they talked, or awaited the outcome, they may avoid being hung by the tongue time and again.

Unfortunately, these officials do everything in order to save their sorry faces out of any guilt to keep a white-lie vest profile

I read European Newspaper daily and didn't read anything about problems in Thailand.

And many tourists don't even know the difference between Thailand and Philippines. One of my customer always sends me greetings to Taiwan and he think it is the same country as Thailand.

Thailand is overestimating its importance.
