webfact
Singer Pornpan finally out of jailThe NationBANGKOK: -- Former singer Pornpan "Joyce Triumph Kingdom" Rattanamethanon was released yesterday after the Supreme Court cut her sentence to eight years and one month in jail and a fine of Bt340,000 for possession of illegal drugs with the intent to sell. The 32-year-old singer's relatives paid the fine and she was released later yesterday.Pornpan and her boyfriend Jitpat Sungkhasuwan, 33, were arrested with 4,040 yaba pills on November 23, 2004, as part of a police sting. In 2005, the Primary Court sentenced Pornpan to eight years and one month in prison plus a Bt340,000 fine, while Jitpat received a jail term of 33 years and four months plus a Bt800,000 fine. However, in 2007, the Appeals Court changed her sentenced to 33 years and five months in jail and increased the fine to Bt800,000 while Jitipat's sentence remained the same.Although the Supreme Court reduced Pornpan's sentence, Jitpat's sentence was unchanged. -- The Nation 2013-10-
theblether
8 years looks about right for that type of crime, 33 was OTT. Good to see a high profile Thai serve some time for a change, however it won't make much difference in the drug war. There's too much money at stake, and it's too tempting.

Shame about the thousands of others, many of whom actually had no connection to drugs, that were deemed to have done the crime and had their time permanently stopped.

The answer doesn't change the fact that both are illegal in Thailand.

My point was more that there are many drug users that are not addicts or damaged anymore then people drinking alcohol. I know of plenty of people who took xtc or weed and led a perfectly normal life had a job and so on. Its only a small portion that goes down and becomes a real addict. Kinda like alcohol not everyone becomes an alcoholic. Drag-user detected. Nice try to indulge your habit, but we both know you lie to yourself. I've seen many times somebody started to take drugs, saying: I control it, it's just for a recreation. But the truth is if somebody starts to take hard drugs (xtc, yabba etc) there are just two ways: 1) addicton and death 2) sobering. and every day of taking drugs it becomes harder and harder to stop, but a drug user just keep telling himself (herself): "I control it, I can stop now but I just don't want" If you take drugs less often you walk in the same direction, but slower. Errrrm... come... again? I don't oft agree with what robblok says... But he's bang on point about the above... Technically speaking Alcohol is as an addictive drug much the same as Nicotine, Cocaine, Marijuana or Yaba... 2 out of 5 of those drugs are legal in Thailand (for the sake of argument and location) ('ll give you 5 guesses to get the right 2)... That there, my NA preaching ukulele playing friend, is the difference... I've given most of them a nudge in my youth, still 6 feet the right side and have no craving - you know what I'm talking about the scratching of the skin, gotta scratch the itch - to try them again, yes some great fun experimenting but I'm not out there banging on the door for the next hit. Would I use these drugs should they ever become legalised, extremely doubtful.

I have used xtc in the past so i know what I am talking about and guess what none of my friends ended up dead, I actually just stopped it quite easy. Before you believe all the propaganda you should talk with people who have used. Many of us used it once of twice a month in a party setting. Weed that too.. guess what in the Netherlands we got less drug addicts as anywhere else. All of use had normal lives company owners normal workers ect. I think most have stopped maybe a once in a year thing. I am sure there is always a portion of people that become addicted but that is the same with most substances. Anyway here I am clean.. risk is just not worth it. I don't even drink alcohol, i'm in great shape. Here the risks are just too big.. you can get deported its not worth it. Don't believe all the stereotypes and such have fun. Hope you can reply here better then in your normal troll topics.
