OSLO, NORWAY (BNO NEWS) -- The Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) has been awarded the 2013 Nobel Peace Prize.

This is a direct and specific statement against the use of chemical weapons in Syria by Bashir al-Assad and his regime against the Syrian people themselves.

Chemical warfare means the use of weapons of mass destruction, which must remain an absolute prohibition despite such gruesome dictators as Assad and his regime.

It also reminds us of the equally powerful reaction against the Assad's regime's use of chemical weapons by Prez Barack Obama. Consequently, two nuclear powers, the USA and Russia have joined to promote the OPCW as the agent to remove the chemical WMD of the barbarian Assad regime.

The world is fortunate to have the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons, so congratulations to them.

And congratulations to the Peace Prize Committee for its timely and vital decision.

Call me picky, but nuclear weapons are more of a worry than chemical ones, yet the clear and explicit warnings coming from the nuclear watchdog concerning Iran seem to have been quietly pushed aside for what I can only assume are reasons of political expedience.

OK. I'll call you picky. The Nuclear watchdog didn't get the Prize because they weren't nominated.

The US is constructing two new facilities to destroy the final and remaining 10% of the original stockpile. One plant is west of the Mississippi, the other to the east of it. The new facilities are more effective and efficient, take less time with less risk.

The good faith effort of the United States continues.

Obviously but only if they are actually used. Score so far...twice in 68 years.

Chemical weapons on the other hand have been used fairly frequently since WW1 with deaths numbering in the 100,000s and non-fatal injuries in the millions. Syria joins a long list of actual/probable users of CW that includes USA, UK, Russia/USSR, France, Germany, Italy, Spain, Japan, Iraq, N.Yemen, Vietnam.

CW is regarded as a lesser form of WMD, hence its more widespread use. Using the nuclear option is rightly regarded as a different matter altogether. Luckily even nutjobs such as the Pyongyang muppets seem to realize this!
