China to buy huge volumes of rice, rubber from Thailand

webfact

Recommended Posts

And in return, the Thai government agreed never to complain about the continued damming of the Mekong, no doubt.

or the continuing supply of sub par pads

Not what I read from another source.

It said that a Chinese Govt web site had reported the premier saying there was no G 2 G deal for rice but Chinese importers would buy 200,000 tones per year from Thai exporters for the next 5 years.

No doubt this would be new seasons rice so there would be no decrease of the millions of tons in stock

Unfortunately there has been so much BS from this Govt that it is difficult to believe what they say, they have of course brought that on themselves.

Her lips were moving so there is no way to tell what is going to happen.

Maybe they will buy the 1,000,000 tons of rotten rice at 8,000 baht a ton.

Power Play from China !

China shows that a small country as Thailand needs China for its trade.

1,000,000 tons of rice to 12,000 baht per ton is 12 billion baht each year and a loss of 1.5 billion for the government.
Rubber will provide 14 billion baht turn around. No profit!
So for a possible commercial transaction of 26 billion baht yearly Thailand signs a intention agreement with China for the development of the High Speed train.
The HST will costsThailand every year 30 billion baht more, so they get their trade for nothing.

It is now called politically wise negotiate with their backs against the wall.

Sell low valued products and buy high valued systems. clap2.gif Good deal Thailand!

What a tirade of bitterness! It must be hard getting up each morning to see Yingluck & Thaksin dominating the political scene while Abhisit is grovelling around bleating with no-one listening. And no end in sight. Great work PT and Yingluck, a master negotiator!!

Selling less than 1% of of the stockpile to the world's most populous nation at an undisclosed price is the "master of negotiations"?

Hahaha

Why do some have to "knock" anything and everything that their choice of government was not able to do.

The previous government didn't have a need to announce fictitious rice deals with other governments, since they didn't have a rice pledging program on which they lost hundreds of billion Baht in the first place.

"Thailand’s rice stockpile will total 15.5 million tons in 2013-2014, up from 12.5 million tons last season and 9.3 million tons in 2011-2012, according to USDA data." Looks like that is a major fail on Maths class there Thaity. "Hahaha"

Part 2

Power Play of China

It doesn't matter if China buy 200.000 or 1.000.000 ton rice every year.
The amount they receive is less than the yearly corruption and fraude amount what happens in Thailand.
Also the rice-subsidary costs (they think) 270 billion baht. so it is a drip on the hot plate.

But China is so strong that they see Thailand as a little brother who have to listen to BIG Papa.

China can even USA-dollar shrink till nothing, but they don't do because they need the international trade.
At this moment China is the BIG BOSS about international trade and everybody have to listen or to follow. If you don't follow they will punish you.

Make first everything in your own country better:

* No corruption

* Punish the people who did last 30 years corruption

* Let farmers more differentiate their product instead concentrate on rice and rubber

* Finance the water system and infra structure with the money you get back from corruption and fraude.

Don't make the trade and business to difficult! thumbsup.gif

Unfortunately with PT carrying it's heavy baggage of white lies the only way anyone will believe what it's representatives say any more is when they see the paperwork showing exactly how much rice is being sold to the Chinese and for how much baht.

But I'm sure that as Her Excellency Khun Yingluck is all for open government she would be only too happy to oblige us with the details.

I hope she's as good a negotiator as Rich Teacher claims she is.

Here's what the official Chinese news agency reported, and it's not what the Thais are saying above:

BANGKOK, Oct. 11 (Xinhua) -- Visiting Chinese Premier Li Keqiang Friday made a four-pronged proposal to lift China-Thailand relations to a higher stage in a speech delivered at the Thai parliament.

Stressing the "familial affection" between the two sides, Li urged both nations to jointly plan for the future, deepen pragmatic cooperation, speed up inter-connectivity construction and enhance people-to-people exchange.

Among the proposals, he called for keeping the frequent exchange of high-level visits between the two sides.

The two nations should not only implement the agreed-upon joint projects but also make long-term strategic overall planning, Li said.

To that end, he said the two sides will issue a joint press communique about the long-term vision of the development of bilateral ties to provide a roadmap for future cooperation.

The Chinese side is also willing to advance bilateral cooperation in transport, water conservancy, energy and education in accordance with Thailand's national development strategic planning, Li said.

On economy and trade ties, Li urged the two sides to implement the Joint Action Plan on China-Thailand Strategic Cooperation, and strive to meet the goal of increasing the two-way trade volume to 100 billion U.S. dollars by 2015 at an earlier date.

Thailand abounds with agricultural products such as rice, the Chinese premier said, adding that his country will support Chinese enterprises to import 1 million tons of rice from Thailand in the next five years.

http://news.xinhuanet.com/english/china/2013-10/11/c_125518236.htm

Most of the news from the Chinese side of things appears focused on

1. the talks of joint visa exemptions for Thai and Chinese tourists in the future.

and

2. the talks of Chinese high speed rail companies getting a piece of the Thai market.

I read pretty much every Xinhua news article the premier's Thailand visit, including on his joint news conference with YS.. And none of them mentioned anything about government to government rice sales to China.

First comes the memorandum of understanding. Then the Thai government moves a little further along with

plans on the high speed rail line building contracts. Then the contract for overpriced rice/rubber is signed. Next the contracts

with the Chinese is signed to finance and build the high speed rail line. Plenty for everyone at the trough.

These dances take a little time so everyone feels comfortable.

was promised by Chinese Prime Minister Li

Deputy Prime Minister/Commerce Minister Niwatthamrong Boonsongpaisarn and Transport Minister Chatchart Suthiphan were assigned to conclude the purchases with China on the rice and rubber sales from Thailand, she said.

Do you notice the keywords, or should I say the BS ?

Only a few weeks ago it was 1.2 million tonnes of rice and the agreement would be signed by the end of the month.

Now the goals have taken down already, and STILL NO AGREEMENT signed. smile.png

To be continued ......................

You can already write your next post in advance.

When the agreement will be finalized and signed you will have something wrong to say about the government anyway. Be it 1,2, 4 ... 10 million tons, you would still find something negative to write.

We should launch a new online game: "In pursuit of the government conspiracy". It would be a hit on this forum. Not too much creativity needed and Thai bashing at will for the best players biggrin.png

You must be the biggest apologist on this forum.

Who am I bashing ? I'm stating the facts as the government announced them now and previously.

Read my post again .

On 16 September was announced that China had PROMISED to buy 1.2 million tonnes of rice and 200.000 Tonnes of rubber, and that the agreement would be signed with in the next 2 weeks.

Now 1 month l( 4 weeks for your understanding) later, there is still no sign of any official agreement signed or gonna be signed, and the amounts have been lowered already.

It is clear that this government tells so many lies, that they don't even remember what they lied about only a few weeks earlier.Leaving them no credibility at all.

Dont worry JBrain, its modus operandi for the Yingluck fanclub to play the man, (poster) instead of the ball, (topic) when the cant find a good red spin on the topic. Consider it a compliment.

The touted deal uses conditional language which leaves 'wiggle room.' Plus, the Shinawatre gov't has been, and will continue to vacillating and coy about revealing prices and whether the rice is new or old. You get one guess as to whether China will buy old rice of questionable quality. The rice pledging scam is paid for by taxpayers, so taxpayers deserve to know its accounting.

And in return, the Thai government agreed never to complain about the continued damming of the Mekong, no doubt.

The Chinese-Thai Shinawatre gov't would never complain about anything China does, regardless. Furthermore, pledging to buy rice and rubber is a small price to pay for Thailand paying trillions for a speedo train which will be primarily used to facilitate Chinese commerce in SE Asia. The same gov't which pays Bt.77,000 each for Bt.1,600 clocks will be buying a train. Hmm, what's wrong with this picture?

'.....in addition, the Thai government will promise not to make a mention of problems with Tibetans losing their country.' Oops, almost forgot, the Chinese-Thai Shinawatre gov't would never do something so outrageous - so no need to include that condition in any deals with Li and his Beijing politburo. So what, if thousands of Tibetans continue to rot in prisons for 'thought crimes' - what's important is Yingluck and Li smiling together.

We're supposed to stand on the sidelines and cheer every foul up this discredited Government makes?

Bizarre logic isn't it. We must party our brains at immigration and become sheep.

Yay Thailand sold 200,000 of the 15,000,000 tons on hand

what they dont mention is that China already would import up to 400k tons of rice per year and up to 1million tons of rubber. So the agreement is actually lower than what they have imported before, and as far as for the rice, well its only a MoU...lets see what price it fetches and if it even goes through.

how is 1 million tons rice lower than 400.000 tons?

I wonder has YS learned to whistle yet after making these statements whistling.gif

If the Shinawatre government were running a restaurant, they would buy 10,000 times the amount of food they need (for 150% the asking price), and give free meals to every big shot who came by, wearing a coat and tie and shiny shoes. Food suppliers would like it though.

felt compelled to add: the money spent on restaurant food supplies would have to be provided from banks and/or taxpayers. Much easier to borrow other peoples' money, and let the community pay it back to the banks, even if it's subsequent generations who wind up paying three times the original borrowed amount.

A MOU is not a binding contract. A MOU is a letter of intent, which will not stand up in court of law. A trade agreement has to be approved by Parliament coffee1.gif

A MOU is not a letter of intent. A MOU simply sets out the understanding reached and agreed planned actions. A letter of intent is used to instigate commencement of actual actions whilst the contract details are being finalized.

What court of law do you refer to ? The decision on which law is applicable and which courts have jurisdiction would be part of the contract negotiations. The fact an MOU has been signed is neither here not there until a contract is signed.

Just more photo ops and BS "white lies" opportunities to make the people feel better and show what a great job YL and the puppets are doing.

You've returned. It must have been hard no having anything positive to write about a corrupt, floundering government, openly controlled by a convicted criminal.

Unfortunately we'll never know how good the deal is, if its ever concluded that is. Even if details are released no one can believe a government who admit to telling lies when it suits, refuse to answer questions on their illegal actions, and constantly issue conflicting figures.

What happened to the lady who exposed the corruption rife within the rice scheme? All gone quite.

I believe you are confusing an earlier letter of intent with an actual order agreement. I doubt that the latest statement has a bearing of the total potential sale to China via Chinese merchants.

Rice deal with China exists: PM

BANGKOK: -- Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra insisted that China would import 1 million tonnes of Thai rice per annum, quashing the scepticism that there was no such deal.

She said after the Cabinet meeting that China earlier agreed to buy 1 million tonnes in five years. However, China will hold an internal trade to change this deal, she said.

She said that the memorandum of understanding for the rice sale would be signed soon, pending for details to be completed by the Commerce Ministry.

So if all is as clear as day why would or why should the Prime Minister make this particular statement?

Seems as if thaksinspeak is in disarray as per usual, liars need to have extremely good memories.

Lewis Carrol could have written a book titled Yingluck in Blusterland if he was still alive.

Diplomatic protocol generally avoids linking social and cultural differences to their commercial transactions. Such in the realm of United Nations Sanctions and of course the fct United States of America are big enough to force us all to comply with their unilaterally imposed sanctions as well.

Rice and Calculation ???

I try to understand the rice subsidiary system.

Can somebody explain me this calculation:

Thailand produce yearly 37.000.000 ton Paddy rice
A part of this production get the price of 15.000 baht per ton.

37 million against 15.000 baht => 555 billion baht
If the government sells this rice for 12.000 per ton it means 444 billion baht
In this case the loss will be 111 billion baht.
How is it possible the government comes on 270 billion baht loss every year.

This calculation is made on the fact that the government should guarantee all the
produced rice, but they don't do.

I believe that the rice system is the way for the corruption and fraud mill.
Always when it goes about big amounts and a failing controllsystem it goes wrong in every country.
Because money counts more than integrity.

But if somebody can explain what is wrong with my calculation.
Please explain seriously!
