Hello all in TV land, has anyone applied for a UK settlement visa with exceptions? I am in the UK and am a carer for a child, I am trying to find out about the possibility of getting my wife a visa so she can be with me and our child. Thanks.

What do you mean by carer?

Is the child disabled and you or s/he in receipt of DLA, carers allowance or similar?

If so, then you will be able to meet the financial requirement by showing that your wife can be supported without recourse to any additional public funds.

See 3.6. Meeting the financial requirement through “adequate maintenance”

If not in receipt of any of the benefits listed in that link, and by carer you mean they simply live with you and you look after them as a parent, then your wife will have to meet the standard financial requirements.

Hi 7by7, I am currently putting in a claim for disability carers allowance, still waiting but I am confident of getting this. Our child is disabled and I look after him on my own now that my wife has gone back to Thailand. We all came to the UK in march, our son has dual citizenship and my wife was on her first visa as a tourist for 6 months. I must also mention that I am living with my mother who owns her own house. I will look at your link now, thanks for your help as always. J.S.

If you are receiving ( or when you receive ) Carers Allowance, or if your child receives Disability Living Allowance, then you can, as 7x7 says meet the requirement by showing adequate maintenance. It is fairly common to see this form of meeting the requirements ( and was in fact the way it was met by everyone before the new rules came in last year).

Whether you receive other income, from employment, for instance, will be important too.

Thanks Thai Visa Express, is that Paul? Don't know if you remember me from about a year ago, saw you at the British Embassy then at the coffee shop over the road, you gave me some advice about my disabled son (free of charge I must add), anyway we all got over to the UK and our son is getting some help over here but my wife has gone back to Thailand as her visa finished. Thanks anyway for your help and advice, chok dee.
