Jakkrit

BANGKOK: -- Former Olympic shooter Jakkrit Panichpatikum was killed in a drive-by shooting on Saturday night by unknown assailants while on his way to pick up his wife and children for dinner.

His friends suspect the attack might have something to do with a deal involving an expensive amulet that might have gone wrong.

"About one or two weeks ago, he told me about the sale and he was clearly fuming. But I don't know the details. It'll be the police's job to investigate," Songwut Wuttikarnkoson said yesterday.

He and some other bikers had joined the funeral procession to Phra Sri Mahathat Temple in Bang Khen district.

Jakkrit's mother Boonkid had tearfully picked up her son's remains from the Institute of Forensic Medicine in the afternoon.

His children, just four and one year old, were still in the dark about his death.

"We just told them that their father is ill and in the hospital," she said.

Born in 1973, Jakkrit represented Thailand at many international tournaments including the 2012 London Olympics.

Earlier this year, his wife and mother complained about domestic violence to Social Development and Human Security Minister Paveena Hongsakul, but soon showed signs of reconciliation by offering him an apology.

Jakkrit's father Manop said a fortune-teller told him recently that his son would either die or go to jail.

"The prediction proved accurate," he said.

Warm reading in action from the " fortune teller"

Jakkrit's father Manop said a fortune-teller told him recently that his son would either die or go to jail.

Looks like the fortune teller just read the newspapers.

I thought 2 days ago it was reported that he was crying because he could'nt get bail, and would miss his childs birthday......must have been given bail after all......bad decision!

They offered him an apology!! What for? For bruising his fists? For letting the world know what a thug he was? For not being punchbags? He was one who should have been in his knees begging for forgiveness, not his victims.

New strategy from minister Pavena: Blame the victims!!bah.gif

This is all over the news.Feels so weird when you see him a couple of weeks ago smiling, next he's laying in a coffin.Just goes to show how fragile life is.RIP and condolences to his family.

He was a scumbag, and like many here, really just a coward.

Jakkrit was taken into custody after his 65-year-old mother, Boonchit Panichpatikum, and 36-year-old wife, Nithawadee Phucharoenyot, accused him last week of intimidating and assaulting them. In a complaint filed with the Social Development and Human Security Minister, Boonchit and Nithawadee said Jakkrit had abused drugs after returning from the Olympics.

Jakkrit was charged with attempted murder, assault, committing violent acts and illegal possession of firearms. Police said that they would press four additional charges against him – resisting a blood drug test, intimidating others, carrying firearms in public space without sufficient reason and owning banned firearms.

Not given bail completed a rehab program and some jail time. A friend of mine lives in the same moo ban he lived in before going to jail a real piece of work shooting at the guards in the guard shack because he thought they didn't do a good job. Giving other residents of the moo ban a bad time. Who knows maybe he had made a turn around after treatment but who knows now.

"a deal involving an expensive amulet that might have gone wrong"

Don't you get some guarantee with an expensive amulet? If it went wrong maybe he could have taken it back?

If it was an amulet to make him immune to bullets it certainly went wrong......Not fit for purpose?

The family can invoke Thai consumer protection regulations....

I am not buying this as a motive.

Killing over an amulet. Something is seriously wrong with either the Thai psyche or The Lord Bhudda.

I go with the Thai psyche.

How does a guy end up driving a Porcsh in Thai ... limited fame went to his head .. thought he was a big player an was taken out ... play games. .. pay the ultimate price ..RIP now ....

The director- general of the department of civil right has just directed the police to place his wife into protective custody. xph34r.png.pagespeed.ic.GOH20nhrx_.png

Lived by the gun and died by the gun.

Superstition is still the biggest killer.

Why are you sending your post by Morse Code mate? biggrin.png

Ch 3 just did a video tribute to this guy.

Because that is the way I write emails and submit responses to this forum .. conversational rather that letter writing ... I say .. interesting to get a response to this style of submission ... ;-)

Nice that Buddhist devotion can lead to murder.

Do not confuse amulets with Buddhism they are more about magic. Although Thais profess to be Buddhist they sure like to mix a bunch of other stuff into there whole belief system

Hard for him to take it back if he's dead

Actually that's a great selling point for the seller, "yeah it will protect you from bullets, if it doesn't then just bring it back mai pen rai"
