webfact
Anti-flood plan for industrial estates to cost Bt10 billionBy English NewsBANGKOK, Oct 29 – A Bt10 billion budget will be needed for long-term flood prevention measures at crucial industrial estates in Bangkok’s satellite provinces, a senior official said.Virapong Chaiperm, governor of the Industrial Estate Authority of Thailand (IEAT), said roads in and around flood-prone industrial estates in Pathum Thani, Ayutthaya and the eastern region must be improved while current anti-flood plans must be reviewed together with a massive survey of dykes at most estates. The IEAT would submit a budget request to the Water and Disaster Management Committee, he said, adding that water drainage channels around and reservoirs inside all industrial estates would be needed with 24-hour monitoring of the water level.Industry Minister Prasert Boonchaisuk said flooding at Amata industrial park in the eastern province of Chonburi had drained entirely and were now completely dry and the situation has returned to normal. He expressed confidence that the latest flooding in the estate--which has an economic value of Bt1.2 trillion--would not negatively impact the confidence of industrialists and manufacturers.Viboon Kromadit, director and chief marketing officer of Amata Corporation, called on the public sector to dig drainage waterways around Amata industrial park .He said the present system could take waters at only nine millimetres while the volume of flood waters was 136-137 mm.He said the Transport Ministry should see to it that Bangna-Trat Road did not block water flow and drainage from the industrial estate.Amata park covers 20,000 rai and accommodates more than 700 manufacturers mainly involving in electronics, auto and electrical appliance industries, employing more than 400,000 workers, he said. Popular Post NongKhaiKid
Well, well what a surprise that even more money is needed for flood prevention measures. The usual question must be asked that will the money actually be used for the intended purpose or will it ' disappear ' as in 2011 and this senario be re-played next year and for years therefter ? Naturally the industry Minister is confident that all the flooding will not impact the confidence of industralists etc. but I'm not so sure they would agree. In 2011 some foreign companies expressed little confidence in the government to prevent future flooding and their tolerance cannot be taken for granted but probably is. Thai industralists and manufacturers know the story as well as anybody especially the fact that what the government says it will do and what actually happens can be world's apart and they know why.
Popular Post noitom
Thais are here publicizing a fraction of the cost of "luring" and keeping foreign firms and the Japanese in Thailand. Too bad as another poster noted, the foreign firms already know the score with Thais and their bluster , smoke puffing and skimming.

A1Str8
Keep talking about this problem instead of solving it. They should have done it a long time ago but they were too busy robbing the country.

Am pretty sure the Japanese manufacturers won't tolerate much more bullshit from the Thai's with regards to the flooding. These Industrial Estates were guaranteed not to flood they were told, yet many did (albeit not as badly as previously). However, we all know that was down to luck not judgement or preparation. I'd be surprised if many of them don't move on to another equally cheap Asian country where they are actually welcomed and helped.
waza
Viboon Kromadit, director and chief marketing officer of Amata Corporation, called on the public sector to dig drainage waterways around Amata industrial park . Yes its far better if the flood waters are drained onto private residences as it much harder for the public to up root their families and move to a more enlightened country.

siampolee
Yet another fine example of the politicians here in P.T.P. Plunderland channeling money to their own pockets as opposed to channeling floodwater away from both industrial and residential areas. One must wonder who the politicians and the government officials tailors and dressmakers are? The skills of those tailors and dressmakers are indeed amazing as their creation of both suits and dresses with such deep hidden pockets to ensure that the monies remain unseen are amazingly skillful when these politicians and officials appear in public with nary an indecent vulgar bulge of money showing and thus distorting the immaculate public appearance of these squeaky clean politicians and officials. The skills of the makeup experts who apply the cosmetics to the faces of the politicians and government officials so as they are able to maintain straight faces when they appear in public is also to be congratulated. Regarding the abilities of the ventriloquists who are able to present such smooth eloquent utterances seemingly from the mouths of both the politicians and the government officials, it is a talented voice throwing performance technique by those ventriloquists which is beyond reproach. The puppet master has indeed garnerd together a remarkable band of subservient marrionettes to establish this amazing state of Plunderlandg
