Popular Post nivram4491
Yesterday, as I was turning into Chaiyapoon Road at the North East corner of the moat, the back tire on my motor cycle went flat. In less than a minute a pickup truck pulled up in front of me. It was a policeman in uniform but not driving a police pickup. He indicated to me to put the motorcycle on the back of the pickup. A few minutes later we were at a motorcycle repair shop where we unloaded the motorcycle. I offered him some money for his help but he refused to accept it. He was very friendly and was happy to help me out. Five minutes and 140 Baht later (needed a new tube) I was on my way. I can't quite imagine any thing like this happening back home.
Popular Post FolkGuitar
It really is mind-blowing. The same sort of thing happened to me on the old road coming back from Pai, though I was driving a car and got the flat. A cop stopped, helped me get the wheel off, (several other folks stopped and offered to help as we were doing this,) took us the rest of the way down to the main road and a tire shop, waited while the shop replaced the tire, drove me BACK to my car and helped me put the tire back on the car... and refused all offers of any sort of compensation from cash, liquor, dinner for him and the family, etc. Just a really nice guy....

Loaded
See not all BIB are what that have been said by many in this forum.... Most people understand that generalizations do not apply to every single person within a group. However, helping out when a tourist has a puncture does not necessarily exclude this policeman from corrupt behaviour. Even Thaksin gave money to charity. Popular Post huli
Getting a flat tire in some distant place where we dont know where the fix it shop is and the problem of communication is one of those difficult situations that many of us have had here from time to time. So nice to hear how the policemen helped you out. I don't think it added anything to this thread to point out that the policeman might still be corrupt in other circumstances. It's a nice story, why say that?

You don't have to be a policeman or a Thai to do those things. You guys must be a real crowd pleaser's at happy parties. No experience with them myself but once my wife got a ticket for not wearing her helmet and they make her go into the cop shop and pay 400 baht. Not sure where that fits in with wife beating running over stray kittens with your car or corruption. Just thought I would mention it.
DaBloodyMess
Me and a couple of friends were given a ride home in the back of a police pickup here (not in handcuffs either!) when we were really pissed and there were no tuk tuks or Songthaews to be seen.... maybe he was just amazed that there were people that don't drink drive I have had largely positive experiences with the BiB.
