Non O or 1 Year Extention?

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I'm currently living in Thailand and have a Non O visa, based on marriage to Thai National.

For the next 2 or 3 years I'll be here for 9 months and back in the UK for 3 months.

I was just planning on getting a new Non O when back in the UK, but the financial requirements now make it less beneficial.

If I go for Extention, and 90 day reporting, how do I stand if out of the country for up to 90 days? I know about re entry permits.

I've only ever had Non O visa's in the past. I'm aware of the financial requirements of both situations.

If on an extension you only do 90 day reports if you are in Thailand for 90 consecutive days.

Providing you have a valid re-entry permit you can return at any time before your 'permitted to stay' date without affecting the validity of your extension.

The day you return is day 1 of a new 90 day reporting cycle.

Ok, thanks for that.

I assume that the "permitted to stay" date will be 1 year from when the extension is received?

It will be 1 year from your current permitted to stay date. You will first get a 30 day under consideration stamp which at most offices will start on your permitted to stay date. Meaning if you go 10 days before that date it would be 40 days before you got your one year stamp.

No, the extension will end one year from the end of your current permission to stay.

How much do the re-entry permits cost? I leave four times a year.

A multiple re-entry 3800 THB

A single re-entry permit costs 1000 baht so in your case the multiple entry would be the best choice.

Just one other point on this, with regard to the start period of the extension, and when to apply.

My Non O visa runs through until July. Can I apply for Extention in say April/May? I know that I'll be back in the UK in July for 3 months. So will not be in Thailand when the Non O expires.

You can apply for the extension during the last 30 days of any 90 day entry you get from your visa.
