Haiyan changes course

Hanoi - Thousands of people were heading home in central Vietnam Sunday after Typhoon Haiyan changed course and was expected to make landfall a day later.

Around 200,000 people relocated in Quang Nam province were on the central coast were allowed to return as the brunt of the storm was expected to pass on by.

"Everyone is being told they can go home now, we’re looking forward to it," said Caroline Mills, a British travel writer who lives on the coast near Hoi An town in the province. "All of our

neighbours were evacuated."

Officials now predict the typhoon will make landfall in Thanh Hoa province, farther north than originally expected, at about 9 am Monday.

"The prediction at the moment is that the storm has weakened overnight. It was predicted yesterday to potentially be a category three or two, and now it’s predicted to hit as a tropical storm when it makes landfall," Red Cross Vietnam director Michael Annears said.

On Saturday, authorities relocated about 500,000 people from central provinces ahead of the storm, according to local media. Schools were closed and fishing boats off the coast of central and southern provinces were told to return to shore or leave dangerous areas

Pheu Thai denies it proposes House dissolution

BANGKOK: -- The Pheu Thai Party denied Sunday that its strategic committee has recommended the government to dissolve the House following mounting protests against amnesty bill.

Pheu Thai spokesman Prompong Nopparit said the party's strategic committee did not hold a meeting on Saturday as reported.

He said the Pheu Thai only invited the leaders of three coalition partners to sign a public contract on Saturday and the strategic commitee did not have any meeting. The coalition signed the public contract that it would not revive the amnesty bill after it is rejected by the Senate.

"I think the false news was spread with political purpose," Prompong said, adding that he had checked with the government leaders who also ruled out House dissolution

More roads closed as mobs grow bigger

BANGKOK, 10 November 2013 (NNT) - The Traffic Police Division announces that more roads are closed due to the amnesty bill protests on Ratchadamnoen Road and the areas surrounding Government and Parliament Houses.

Two middle lanes of the road from Phan Fa Junction to the monument are still opened. As for the roads surrounding Government House, some parts of them are blocked with vehicle screening checkpoints.

Commuters are strongly advised to avoid four main roads affected by the demonstrations—Phitsanulok, Si Ayutthaya, Ratchadamnoen and Ratchawithi. Double concrete barriers have been erected at Khattiyani Junction near Parliament House.
