Local Drunk
Everyone knows this showdown was coming, but we all hoped it would be ...some other time. If anyone needs help, message me. I am safely in the provinces. Don't expect cash, but I make a great breakfast. Lovely offer... Thanks
mrtoad
Just drove by Impact Arena. The place is teeming with Reds and more arriving by the bus load. Counted at least 30 big buses already there and several more tail backed on the highway. Unfortunately the rent a thugs will be out soon, with their black shirt goons trying to incite violence. The criminal in Dubai is probably getting pretty upset that his plans are not coming together in the way the he wanted, so be prepared for Jatuporn The Hut to start ranting, and suggesting that the third hand etc are going to make sure that democracy will not be a priority.

mrtoad
They don't half talk some <deleted> those red shirts. Watching them on Asia Update TV. Some stupid nonsense about Suthep being jealous of Thaksin buying Manchester City. Hmmmmmm ... and that worked out well too!! Heard one announcement that the reds are planning to stay at least 2-3 days there at Muangthong, which of course is the usual opposite of what they said yesterday. I'm not saying that the other side are any better or any more honest, but the red shirt leaders really do come across as buffoons of the highest order and their excuses for everything are those an 8 year old kid would up come with. One side steps back soon, or this is going to get nasty later this week. That's funny considering that Thaksin couldn't even pay he wages when he was there, and had the previous chairman bailing him out. The football authorities in the UK tightend up fit and proper persons requirements, so that criminals like Thaksin would not be able to launder money, and screw over football clubs in future. He is time at Man City was a joke, and if these buffoons had any idea about that they'd look at that.Thaksin is a convicted criminal and a confidence trickster. attento
Succesful democracy is essentially a weak game played by morally strong people. Unfortunately, Thailand's governing bodies seem to be lacking in the latter. A coup may happen, but then what ? More of the same. How we all wish it were otherwise. phantomfiddler
jatuporn (note small case), whose name among middle class thais is, translated, "dogmouth" and chalerm, who is looked upon as the lowest piece of offall fathering a totally disfunctional family, can say what they please, but this optimist believes that the general thai population are finally getting smart enough to realise they have been led down the wrong path. Redshirts, get smart and ditch these sociopaths and magalomaniacs, set up a legitimate political party, and go for it (preferably without your parangs, guns, and clubs)
rubl
I see it reported elsewhere that the reds are arranging transport to get their followers to BKK, for instance : Anuwat Thinnarat who is supposed to be organizing things has said that there are 40 buses and 20 vans to bring people from Nakhon Ratchasima to BKK. Wonder how many of the people on these buses and vans will be committed enough to pay their own fare. Seems the local reds are going round trying to get people to go as well, good fun , good food, good music. Hope no one digs up the grenade launchers as they have done in the south. Did not see anywhere that any of the anti amnesty groups were organizing transport, seems the people in BKK are mostly locals and any outsiders have paid their own way. I'm a bit surprised at this. I would have thought that with all rice farmers rich and an enormous number of Mercs and so sold upcountry, all could travel in state. Puzzling really

phantomfiddler
The worm is getting desperate, having seen his latest thrust for power stopped dead in it,s tracks, and is very likely to try his last hope, his own private army stored in the several thousand designated redshirt villages, patiently waiting for the order (and the 500 bht per day) to rise up against all the thais smart enough to realise what is really going on. Interesting times indeed ! The future of civilisation in this fair land is going to be decided in the very near future, I think. nong38
The current govt cleverly signed up a lot of the smaller parties so they could control the parliament. These last few weeks and the cock up over the "Amensty Bill" clearly shows they have not got a clue what governing is all about. We have the "people power" rally, a peaceful affair airing their views in a democratic way, now the Government supporters are in town for a rally to support the Government which is their right as well. The problem is they are both in town together and this could get out of hand very quickly, I hope it does not but it could, where do we go from here? Earlier posters seem to think the worst, a military coup, well by the end of the week maybe things will be clearer, if the Government judge the situation is clearly getting worse the safe option would be to call a General Election and tomorrow the Hague who decides owns the Temple, we live in interesting times, take care everyone things could turn nasty very quickly. Sunderland
protest tomorrow at 9.a.m. at ratchadamnern rd bangkok.if anyone is interested..be safe... Is that a protest by anti-amnesty, anti-government, anti-anti-amnesty, anti-anti-government or red buffaloes? Seems early for protesting when they're all having a late night tonight. Nattawut Saikua said tonight he would quit his position in the government to lead street fights if necessary. Seems like we have gone full circle since 2010, albeit with a few more people's suspicions about the Shinawatras confirmed.

It might involve some one to travel to Dubai for a personal meeting with Thaksin. I say do it in a fair way not join the red shirts against the common people looking for a honest government. Well the truth is they have enough seats to do what they want. They just got all the small parties to agree with them 100% so they would look better. It didn't fool any one but them selves. I am fairly sure the house would have passed the bill if they had allowed a debate on it and told their party members to vote their conscience. The problem with that would have been it showed the cracks in their party so they chose the way to make them all look solid and stupid.
Thainy Tim
My wife was chatting with her brother in BKK earlier on facebook. He says the reds were delivered free food by government vehicles. So if there was any doubt that the PTP are behind this new set of pro-government rallies, it has just been confirmed. Taking into consideration all the actions by the PTP over the past 7 days, this is what my theory is, and everything falls into place. Thaksin and the PTP realize they are fighting a losing battle. So they fall back onto their plan B. They try to beg the demonstrators that it is for unity of the people and bring in a bunch of paid off relatives of the 2010 dead. This fails as everyone sees straight through it. They decide that this bill is not going to go through because they know that their interference in the senate is very limited. So they change tactics. They decide to pull all the bills, and beg the senate to reject this one (not ask for a rewrite.... REJECT). They see that the red shirts are turning against them because they want to see Abhisit and Suthep rot in prison for the 2010 killings. If the bill is retracted and torn up... this gives the government a chance to produce a nice tailor made bill just for the reds that will allow Thaksin back into power as a clean man and keep those in political office during 2010 accountable... basically, modify the bill to allow prosecution of Abhisit and Suthep and everyone is freed from all wrongdoing. They know that while all the anti gov demos are still going on, this keeps extra pressure on the gov to try and sway opinion on the street. Best way is to pay for a huge amount of pro-gov and pro amnesty bill protesters of the most violent kind to do their dirty work for them. Hence the new set of rallies from 'the other side'. In the hope that the brain dead uneducated (and very easy to manipulate lot) will frighten off the more mild mannered intelligent types. So the end result will be the streets mostly over run by paid pro gov red shirts, most of the peaceful anti govs will be hopefully frightened off. This bill will be shredded and a new one put forth that the sub-intellect reds agree with. Thaksin gets clemency.... and the gov have won. Did people really believe that this was the end of the push for Thaksin??

In which case the amendments can be made. Nobody knows what goes on behind closed doors. So we will have to wait and see what happens in the senate. If you are, more power to your elbow. However i suspect not. "My wife was chatting with her brother on Facebook"! So this CONFIRMS that the PTP are behind these rallies! Hahaha. Oh deary deary me. Are you Thai? If not, respectfully, as a guest in this country the political shenanigans here are out of your control, and probably none of your business! Are you Thai? If not, respectfully, as a guest in this country the political shenanigans here are out of your control, and probably none of your business! None of my business? I have lived here for 8 years, I have Thai family living in BKK, Myself and my family have to live here under the conditions that the government impose on me as a foreigner, as well as my wife and kids as Thai citizens. I jointly own a company here producing snacks and pay a lot of corporate taxes every year. My wife's brother merely communicated a fact he saw with his own eyes, and I communicated it to this forum. He does not lie, he is an intellectual and owns an agency that supplies models and actors to television. He has no reason to lie to his sister. As for none of my business. If I live here under these political conditions, and so does my family, and we pay heavy taxes, then I see it as very much my business. You on the other hand. It probably IS none of your business. Why don't you send a general message to all foreigners on this board to mind their own business. As far as I am concerned, this expansion to include pro-gov protesters has been put in place by Mr T and the government, delivering food in pickups that have the government crest on the doors is 100% confirmation. Now stick your head back in the sand and allow us to debate, which is everyone's right on here. I would like to add 'respectfully, as a guest in this country the political shenanigans here are out of your control, and probably none of your business! ' It seems clear that you are one of those farang who has submitted to being the 'second class citizen' in Thailand. I however, do not feel second class, neither am I treated as such by the vast majority of Thais. I have been welcomed and made to feel equal and even sometimes much higher status. Too many people feel victimized, but when you really boil it down, I am sure there are times when you get a lot of special treatment from your family and friends. Farangs who have moved here, established businesses and families, have every right to point out criminal political shenanigans because they affect themselves and their extended families. Thai xenophobia may prevent us from becoming citizens and voting, it does not remove our morality, intelligence or ability to protest against what we see as wrong.
