Compromising - a look in the mirror.

Featured Replies

Many foreigners come to live in Thailand for various reasons.

In order to live in a different country/culture 1 needs to adapt to at least some degree in order to have a pleasant and sustainable life.

When 1 works/has own business, lives together/married with a thai, when 1 has children together etc....1 needs to make compromises in order to make it durable. Yes that is in our countries valid too but living/working in thailand brings added difficulties because well.....a generally different way of doing things, perception of life, religion etc...

This compromising can come into conflict, for each person differently, with ones own beliefs, standards, morals, principles etc....

If you look back what has been/still is the most difficult compromise you made/have to make on a regular basis in day to day life to make your life sustainable/more pleasant ?

Interesting would be to know as well if people, who have made compromises in the past, living in Thailand, have found that perhaps, on heinsight, they have compromised too much and reversed it. If yes, why ?

Over to you.....

I feel , I had to compromise to a much greater extent in my homecountry. The laid back lifestyle here suits me absolutely perfect!!thumbsup.gif

Yes in contact with authorities here with their neverending paperwork with hundreds of copies, could earlier make me lose it. "Are they stupid or what"? Today almost nothing makes me lose my temper, I just join the line and wait for my turn. It might take a while, but I have realised, that I am not in a hurry. And normally the end result is the one I wanted. And if not, try again!!

So Thailand has taught me patience, not necesarily a bad thing?

So the secret is, that the "compromises" you make, becomes part of daily life, and therefore doesn't feel like compromises. Makes sense??whistling.gif

Time and organisation.

Thailand as stated above isnt so organised or in many cases efficient. There is no pressure of getting it done right now, take your time "mai pen rai" can do later, go tomorrow etc.

One of the best things I ever did was get rid of my wrist watch, time doesnt really matter, slow down, chill out, relax the pressure to perform, react, conform or whatever doesnt exist here and you need to get rid of it or you just end up frustrated and miserable.

For 99% of the worlds population life is a compromise wherever you live. smile.png

Back in the UK i was always trying to make money ,here i enjoy spending it

I refuse to compromise when seeking intelligent conversations.

So I came to ThaiVisa.

Might have to rethink my refusal to compromise.
