This is NOT about the events of 2008, or 2010 for that matter. This is about today's protests, keep your posts related to that aspect.

Tear gas related incidents, fine. We are not going to re-hash all the events of the 2008 or 2010 events though. And that's enough of this discussion.

USA Today said during the tear gas debacle: "Thai riot police used a cheap Chinese tear gas that contained an explosive... used to make bombs and not a standard component of tear gas".

Sorry to say it is probably the same gear. The Chinese never put dissent down gently. Further once there is a channel for purchases in Thailand, greasing both sets of palms as goods and cash flow, it is usually a long term relationship.

One point of disagreement here, shooting steel nuts from a slingshot is violence. That can blind a person or fracture a child's skull quite easily.

Cellphones can cause single incidents to spread quickly. Both sides would do well to keep their slingshots and explosive tear gas put away, as well as all the other nasty toys we are all guessing some elements on both sides are toting around.

Any reporter or reposter with half an IQ putting this on a web-site would have found out where these zones are and produced a map - even a rough one.

This story is half baked.

I wonder if the police are wiping the rust off those explosive tear gas grenades they used on the yellow shirts in the Parliament compound in 2008 resulting in one death and several lost limbs and eyes.. Since they were never able to find any traces of who had ordered them, they might want to use them again without risk of anyone being blamed for them.

No map because the zone is expanding exponentially. Expected to reach Bang Sue sometime Wednesday and Korat by the end of the week.

Hope dems remind top cop and PM that they could be charged if anyone is killed or injured.

I find these chaotic situations most saddening and hope to hell matters don't escalate, but won't be holding my breath.

There's good and bad on both sides, but, unfortunately, the worst of the bunch will invariably bring events down to base level given the opportunity.

The last time the Thai police used tear gas against protestors it was against yellow shirts and there were many many people had legs blown off and suffered horrendous serious injuries. Go find the videos on youtube if you have the stomach.

Actually, I think tear gas was used in 2010 when the red shirts were attacking the army with molotov cocktails at Thaicom. That's before they bought out their armed militia on April 10.

That's enough of this discussion? Then you should also advise Arkady another moderator, who has referred to the 2008 event. So is is this just you being bossy? Someone is out of order. It is either you or the other moderator. Get it sorted please before you wave the finger at TV contributors.

Tear gas is medieval, then again so are the policies of this particular government. The Spanish Inquisition comes to mind.
