Thaksin Presses Libel Against Celebrity Actress

By Khaosod Online

Former Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra has pressed defamation charges against a leader of the anti-government protests and a famous actress.

The lawyer representing Mr. Thaksin, Mr. Winyat Chartmontri, told the police Mr. Thaksin is gravely insulted by Mr. Somboon Thongburan, a leader of the People′s Democratic Force For Overthrow of Thaksinism (Pefot), who accused Mr. Thaksin of sending 400 foreign militants to take shelter in Dharamakaya Temple in northern Bangkok and wait for Mr. Thaksin′s order to attack the anti-government protesters.

Dharmakaya is a Buddhist sect which is seen as harbouring close ties to Mr. Thaksin and his party.

Mr. Winyat told reporters the anti-government protests have often broadcast false statements and claimed to have the support of the monarchy in order to mislead the public and discredit the government.

"I′d like to call on the protesters to use their reasons. Don′t be used by anyone," said Mr. Winyat.

The lawyer also pressed charge on Mr. Thaksin′s behalf against Ms. Pattarathida ′Tang Mo′ Patcharaweerapong, a well-known actress who gave speeches on the stage of the anti-government rally in Ratchadamnoen Avenue last week.

Mr. Winyat called Ms. Pattarathida′s speeches "libelous", without naming the problematic parts of her speeches.

Public accusations of 1999–2002

In 1999[3][4] and again in 2002[5][6] the temple's abbot, was accused of charges ranging from fraud and embezzlement to corruption.

You mean a wanted criminal that fled the country when he realized he couldn't bribe his way out of a conviction, and didn't want to pay the penalty for the crime(s) he committed, now wants charges filed against other people, and probably expects that they should be found guilty and thrown into the same prison by the same justice system he himself refuses to comply with ?

It's almost scary to think that things could (easily) get much worse, in a very short amount of time.

You couldn't make this stuff up!

So the convicted criminal fugitive Caddy now thinks the courts are fair if he can sue for defamation, however they are biased if they rule against him. What sad, pathetic little man he is.

If everyone was taken to court every time they said something libelous in public we'd all be in jail.

Or on the run. whistling.gif

They wouldn't be faced by the same justice system he faced, unless of course, the Military Junta from 2006 have expressed an interest in getting involved in libel cases..............

I guess we can't be sued for calling him a convicted criminal fugitive...

I think the law must be changed urgently. To press charges you must go personally to a police station would finish that nonsense that a criminal on the run sue other people for libel.

Actually, what time the Senate will announce it's decision on the amnesty bill ?

Until that time you're safe.

if it went to court surely he would to attend...w00t.gif

Khun Thaksin: What about the lies repeated every day by your acolyte Jaturporn? What about your own lies on your Facebook page saying that you are in 'exile'? [self-exile perhaps, but not exile!]. What about all the lies your red shirts have said about Abihsit? Sadly, Thaksin won't read this post but my god! These people make you sick.

After they are done whingeing about having to come to work to vote on something and arguing about how much time each senator should allowed to complain about shit in general.

This will take quite some time.

As far as I know that is already the law.

Does the Thai Court allow Skyping?

The Military Junta of 2006 doesn't exist anymore in that form. As such I doubt 'the Military Junta' is expressing anything at the moment.

For telling the truth, no.

Interestingly, if you are charged with libel in Thailand it is up to the defendant to prove the statement not the litigant to disprove. So in the case of the convicted criminal fugitive you only need to roll-out the court decision to prove your statement. Done and dusted.

He still dreams of control....a totally delusioned fool

You're right about that, they for sure would not be allowed to visit the China Olympics shortly before the verdict is read.

And there I sit and thought I had seen it all, heard it all. And whoosh - another story from the LOS that makes me think the local politicians have lost their mind. Feeling curious about what comes next...

The pseudo Buddhist moneymaking machine (Scientology, Mun and Bhagwan (Oshi) system)

is ready for every "business", but the followers of this sect are mostly middle class people, no Thaksin admirors..

The rumors quoted have a low but not excluded probability.

YK tries to sell some the finest Thai ricebergs to the Philippine's in the name of humanitarian aid ?

wa wa wa what a baby ... wa wa wa

you can have a war on drugs where thousands "disappear" and be a convicted felon on the run but somehow you can still sue someone using the legal system you have fled from ... all this must make Thailand the biggest banana republic

Yingluck is going to visit the Philippines to give advice on disaster management, as she's pretty good at managing to create disasters.
