webfact Posted November 15, 2013 Share Posted November 15, 2013 Civil obedience ends but anti-government protest more intense BANGKOK: -- As anti-government protest leaders have announced an end to the 3-day civil disobedience today, but larger scale of protest will be on their agenda and more intense. They set today’s 6 p.m. as the time to make known the next step which protesters will be told at the Democracy Monument rally.Protest leader and former Surat Thani MP Suthep Thuagsuban told crowd of several thousands of supporters amid falling rain last night that the decision would be decided jointly today at 6 p.m. with indication it would be more intense but peaceful.He said civil disobedience would end today but more intense protest would be continued to pressure what he now termed the Thaksin government.He promised that the intense protest would not take long but end within this month. He did not elaborate but said more protest groups would join the protest.Suthep also attacked the former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra of manipulating the Yingluck government, and recalled that he was in the past approached by Thaksin four tines to join his party but was rejected.He said he had regarded Thaksin as a friend who could call on his home in Surat Thani every time he needed but broke up all relation as soon as the former premier ordered his red-shirt comrades to attack the Democrat party’s rally in Chiang Mai where its former leader Chuan Leekpai and Abhisit Vejjajiva were addressing the people and students inside Chiangmai University.He said now his home in Surat Thai has a poster which reads “Thaksin is No Longer Welcomed Here”.Meanwhile the Network of Students and People for Thailand Reform also switched from just protesting the amnesty bill to opposing the passage of the amendment of Article 190 of the Constitution which empowers the prime minister as a sole decision maker in making any treaties with foreign countries without seeking approval from Parliament.Giving such administrative power will make it easier for the government to enter into a treaty or an agreement which is not of national importance of which is not concerned with territorial sovereignty with foreign countries without parliamentary approval.The amendment of Article 190 passed the approval of the joint sitting of the House of Representatives and the Senate with a vote of 381 to 165 with nine abstentions on November 4 amid the political turmoil.The amendment will become another cause of prolonged anti-government protests by opposition groups.Source: http://englishnews.thaipbs.or.th/civil-obedience-ends-anti-government-protest-intense/-- Thai PBS 2013-11-15 2 Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Then whenever you see somebody from the government about to sit down slip it under their bottom. It will be a powerful and meaningful way to protest! One giant leap for dictatorship. I would like to see this in action, if only for a few weeks so we can all piss ourselves laughing at all the f***ups she makes with that power. Not exactly clear who was rejected, doesn't really matter. Well it'll probably end when the Constitutional Court rules on 20th Nov and bans all politicians that voted for the constitutional amendment lol. No it does not. Remember how many D-days and final moves we heard from the PAD and than nothing important happened. "Operation Hiroshima" did neatly coincide with the court verdict though. Upping the ante makes demands of the court. It asks them to break the deadlock, and I see the red counter protests as perhaps more a message to the court rather than simply a direct response to the anti-government protests. Remember the airport closure in 2008 was ended before December. This will end this month too. Why? Because December 5th is the King's birthday and nothing will be permitted to mar that day. Yes - but if the amnesty whitewash fiasco had been rammed through the boss would've been back a freeman and no doubt back in the PM's chair. Imagine that, Khun Dr. Thaksin empowered to make deals on behalf of Thailand, with no approval needed from anybody and no accountability ! Add the 2.2 trillion loan and the legislation that means it can be spent "off budget" without parliament's control and no accountability ! Add the 350 million water management "fund"........................ Wouldn't an incumbent PM have an enjoyable time ............. no checks, balances, accountability and free from criticism or protests.
