United Airlines Cancelling Tokyo- BKK flights next year

Yea, clearly that advert was in the works/made a while ago, and/or the decision to chop BKK a last minute addition to the "$2 billion in savings" plan.

NH (ANA) have modified their departure/arrival, and upguaged (777) to accommodate connections in NRT for the U.S. Interestingly, this will be NH's only flight NRT-BKK as they move BKK flights to HND, and code-share more with TG (for NRT-BKK).

The UA-NH Joint Venture, meant to share costs/revenue and fix prices was just for trans-pac routes, but it has been extended for some intra-Asian routes, where it's "legality" may not be questioned.

One should expect increased fares for UA (016) tickets USA-BKK, and maybe for ex-BKK, assuming one still wants to fly UA/NH?

text of email:

As you may be aware, as of March 29, 2014, United will no longer serve Bangkok with its own aircraft. However, you can count on our joint venture partner ANA to take you to Bangkok and many other destinations beyond Tokyo.

If you hold a ticket for travel to or from Bangkok after March 29, you will be automatically rebooked on ANA between Narita and Bangkok.* At Tokyo Narita airport, ANA operates out of the same terminal as United (Terminal 1), making connections even easier.
If you are planning future travel to or from Asia, you'll be pleased to know that ANA already has a broad network of routes throughout Asia. In the summer of 2014, they will expand their service from Tokyo to include additional flights to Bangkok, Jakarta, Manila, Hanoi and other Asian cities, making it easier to get to your destination, whether you start in North America or in Asia. The combination of United and ANA flights in Tokyo also serve a wide range of U.S. cities.
Whenever your plans call for international travel, look to ANA, United and Star AllianceTM network. You can earn and use MileagePlus award miles on all Star Alliance flights, as well as earn Premier qualifying miles and Premier qualifying segments. For details about miles and other benefits, check each airline's page at united.com
It's been our pleasure to serve you in Bangkok, and we look forward to seeing you in the friendly skies again soon.
*If seats are not available on ANA, you will be re-accommodated on another airline.

I think my days of flying United from BKK have been over for a while, just been using up MP miles. There are better 1 stop options out there, my personal fav being China Airlines. That being said, United's upgraded cabin's, especially Business Class, is I have to say is the best in the business (which in my opinion is even better than SQ) I will miss
