David48
The Day of the Doctor ... Fifty years ago, today (or yesterday) ... depending on your time zone ... JFK was assassinated. Fifty years ago on Saturday, or Sunday (depending on your time zone) ... another event happened which affected a equally large number of folk. Some may argue even more ... as a president is only allowed for 2 terms. But some things endure longer ... some may say timeless. This Sunday is a special day ... it's the day of the Doctor ... Heck ... even Google recognises it ... They even have a soundtrack running while you search. So, it touched many of our lives. I'm a fan ... I grew up with it. For those who liked the show ... do you still watch it today? Favourite Doctor? For me ... more important ... favourite companion? Mine being Rose Tyler (Billy Piper) Website here ... here ... http://www.doctorwho.tv/. .
tutsiwarrior
I liked Romana2 that was with Tom Baker's Dr....she sorta looked like an old girlfriend and although she looks quite wholesome I useta imagine her in all types of (ahem) 'private' scenarios... pitchag
I liked Romana2 that was with Tom Baker's Dr....she sorta looked like an old girlfriend and although she looks quite wholesome I useta imagine her in all types of (ahem) 'private' scenarios... The very first ones were so bad if an actor stumbles against a "solid wall " it would shake and a bit of foam would chip off, and the original Doctor would often forget his lines and say some t thing completely different to the script and they used to leave it in rather than call cut and start again
Rsquared
Sorry Dave....I never really got the Doctor, don't know why....probably 'cause I was more into the Flintstones and Bugs Bunny. But today, my favourite person on planet earth is... Neil deGrasse Tyson. I could really sit down and have a few beers with that guy.....sorry I know

Mate, for me ... your image didn't show. So ... yeah...that's a nice shot of her... I started to watch Dr Who re-runs on PBS TV when I lived in the SF area of California in the early 80s...I didn't know much about England and thought that all English women were like Lalla Ward the actress and it wasn't until later when I lived there that I found that she was considered to be 'posh totty'...Billie Piper is a lot more 'down to earth'... and folks in the US would say: 'whaddaya watchin' that for? it sure looks dumb...' and I would say: 'hey, man...it may look dumb but there are real LSD sensibilities at work here!...' I was referring to the minimal production values and the story lines many of which had to be written by someone on acid...
David48
What amazes me is that it's stood the test of time. Like Sesame Street (comparing the model, not the programs) they have innovated and changed with the various whims and trends of the day ... but stay true to their original form and concept. Very few programs remain 'fresh' after 50 years ... the good ole doctor is one of them. Being British seems to help them ... it seems more about standards then commercialisation. I had a major crush on her during that run and wouldn't miss an episode. Was disappointed when I found out she married the Doctor (Baker).
David48
I was actually searching for something in Google ... If you click the Yellow Triangle in the word Google (as in their Google Web Page) it takes to a simple Dr Who game. I had fun playing it ... but then again, I have never owned a PS or X-Box Edited November 23, 2013 by David48

StreetCowboy
My favourite companion was Nyssa http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nyssa_(Doctor_Who) but we kind of lost touch. When I was significantly younger than I am today, we never had a TV at home, and I'd watch Dr Who at a friend's house, then run all the way home to tell my dear old mother about it before dinner. I must've been fit in those days. SC EDIT: And I still think Tom Baker and Jon Pertwee were the best doctors, and either could have made a very successful scarecrow Edited November 23, 2013 by StreetCowboy
krisb
Yep brilliant show still going strong. Tom Baker was the best Dr imo. John Pertwee aka Worzel Gummidge was also great. I have heard Davros his old arch enemy is set to return. The show shows no signs of slowing down. http://youtu.be/dRYQEmwPJjQ Link to watch the BBC show the making of the greatest ever theme song.
segedunum
Yes, I used to hide behind the sofa, when the Daleks came on. Probably still would.

StreetCowboy
...The show shows no signs of slowing down. ... I found the last couple of series with David Tennant too frantic for my liking. But then, I'm not as fit as I was 35 years ago...

And now she's married to Richard Dawkins, so there are some advantages to being a scientist either fictional or real....
mca
Doctor Who scared the crap out of me when I was a kid. 2 particular ones still give me the willies when I think about them and I'm 46. The first was the giant spiders who jumped on a persons back and turned invisible and the 2nd was that one in an Antarctic research station where these scientist discovered this plant pod and it opened, stung a blokes hand and over time he turned into a giant plant.
segedunum
Yes, I used to hide behind the sofa, when the Daleks came on. Probably still would. Better to run upstairs Aye it is true, they were not very good on stairs. Wish I had thought of that in the early sixties though.
