BANGKOK, Nov 23 – Enforcement of the Internal Security Act, which declared three districts in Bangkok off-limits to protest gatherings, may be extended after the November 30 deadline, a senior security official said.

Paradorn Pattanatabut, Secretary General of the National Security Council (NSC), said officials will wait until the rally at the Democracy Monument on Sunday to determine if further action will be needed.

“The Internal Security Act may be extended for another month but the government is ready to revoke it when the situation returns to normal,” he said.

He did not rule out the possibility of protesters surrounding Government House but believed they would not intrude into the compound.

About 28 checkpoints will be set up in the off-limits zones on Sunday, he said.

Suthep Thaugsuban, leader of the Democracy Monument rally, announced last night that the protest will be escalated on Monday with demonstrators dispersing to 12 different areas in the city.

Akanat Promphan, spokesman of the demonstration, said the organisers were preparing for the big day tomorrow when one million people were expected to join the rally. (MCOT online news)

Pork pies??? Where?? That sounds amazing. Game changer.

For those of us who live in the area can we sort out the traffic? I am not suggesting they send the tanks in 'China style' but...

The government seems to be involved in a lot of 'mulling' of late. Are they catching their second wind or is this an indication that they are changing from their previous attitude of 'damn the torpedos, full speed ahead' which had kind of a "bull in china closet" result?
