However, the main reason I came to this thread was to comment about how badly she conveyed her answers to the interviewer. A lot of the time the interviewer had a deep frown on her face as if she was trying to understand what YS was saying.

YS was just babbling, almost panicking, and saying the usual words without forming many coherent sentences. It really was a poor performance. Even worse than her brother.

Yes, it was a particularly cringeworthy interview and I suspect, in retrospect her advisors would have rather she had not done it, as it will weaken her international standing still further as a premier not in control of herself, let alone the country. She seemed unable to grasp the meaning of the questions, perhaps just one or two words within them, and then went off on a meaningless babble that had to involve mention of "democracy", "election", "the people" in each (non-)answer. That the interviewer mentioned Yingluk's speech in Mongolia caught her out big-time, as it showed she really has no idea of the content of speeches scripted for her and if she wasn't the PM of a country who claims to have a masters degree from a US university, you'd have to feel sorry for the woman. As it was, one is left thinking, "surely Thailand can do better than this for a premier"? Then again, how many times did we think the same when Dubya opened his mouth and spoke?

Yes, she was completely floored by Veronica Pedrosa quoting her own speech back at her, .the bit about the need to follow the rule of law to develop democracy and how her government's amnesty bill was consistent with that. She panicked and went into a babble that didn't answer the question, just referring to the rank and file red shirts from 2010 who would get amnestied, as in the first reading of the bill and ignored the addition of her brother and the 25,000 other corruption cases added in the second reading.

I guess her minders will remove Al J off the list. They should've remember the savaging the family lawyer, Robert Amsterdam, got from Al J in 2010 when they got him talking nonsense and so flustered that he was talking in a squeaky voice. Jonathen (Air) Head and Dan (Cry Me a) River(s) are far more sympathetic to the red cause. Meanwhile the intrepid newshound Nick Nostitz, famous for his well balanced accounts of Thai protests, seems to have disappeared from the scene, perhaps working on a sequel to his acclaimed photo essay on Bangkok's seedy nightlife.

Well one thing comes across very strongly, apart from the obvious, and that is she says, "I think", more times than I can imagine. However, her answers certainly don't seem to confirm it? Not to mention they were nearly all non answers. Still no idea who is "in Control" as asked by the interviewer or did I miss it?

Veronica Pedrosa is a Filipino journalist who was raised for 15 years in the UK, hence the accent and articulate English. She also has qualifications to back her up.

A formidable and well researched interviewer IMHO. I almost wept for Yingluck's schoolgirl performance.

She sounds like a student who just found out they have a speaking test, and continuously uses the only vocabulary they know, despite it not having much relevance to the original question. Why do they spend so much time studying grammar in Thai schools when the result ends up like this???? Complete gibberish whether you translate it back into Thai, German, Chinese or toddler talk. I remember Dan Rivers interviewing his beloved champion of democracy as a fugitive in Singapore for CNN. Dan eventually ran out of questions and asked Thaksin about his hobbies. Thaksin said, "I dive golf. I don't have time to play de full round". Dan asked him if that meant he just used his driver off the tees and didn't bother with any of the in between shots or putting. Thaksin obviously didn't understand the question but just smiled confidently and said, "Yes, I only have the time for dive golf". Obviously he meant that he only has time to go the driving range which is "drive golf" in Thaiglish and Thaksin that this was an English expression that had passed into Thai. Priceless.

There are a lot of low end schools in America that make the rent by charging high tuition to foreign students. This is apparently one of those. I doubt Yingluck spent much time there.

I think she's a lovely lady who is under a lot of stress because this job is much more than she can handle. She should probably be given the opportunity to step down gracefully, and then PTP needs to find within its ranks a well spoken, articulate fresh face, with real political savvy who will break the opposition without mercy. A young version of Mr. T, although perhaps it might be best if this person was not a member/relative of the S clan.

Is it true that after 180d (I'm assuming from the day the Senate voted to kill it), the House can approve the same or a modified amnesty bill and have it pass into law WITHOUT any action by the Senate or the PM? There's GOT to be some fine print to that. Details, please.

I think you are being rather unfair to Google Translate.

Previously the kept the foreign media away from her, except a few carefully scripted interviews with jouranlists who agreed to submit questions in advance. Now that her back is up against the wall there is no choice but to put her in spotlight. The effects are painful, probably for her too.

While you and I agree in principle, I have talked with her (in English - my Thai is horrible), and we never had any communication problems.

Watched in 5 minute blocks (i was cooking) it was bearable but amusing when taking the whole interview in context. Considering I have upwards of 200 speaking tests to listen to on Friday....I won't complain about my students speaking tests anymore.

My students have asked for real media to listen to for practice listening exercises rather than the canned listening included with the texts. I almost feel like playing 10 minutes of this dialogue to them (without any video). Then I would ask them to take notes about what they heard and then try to explain it to their group members. It would be a comical exercise but without any real educational value. No, I like my students too much to do that to them.

You can always find someone to write your thesis fopr a price, but how do you defend it orally? Oral thesis defense is usually a requirement for masters and higher degrees.
