india-11.jpg

PATTAYA: -- A 41 year old Indian Tourist reported the theft of a Gold Necklace in the early hours of Friday on Pattaya Beach.

Police and a Police Interpreter made their way to the scene, opposite Soi 10 on Pattaya Beach Road and met with Mr. Ajay Jha who was visibly shaken after the incident which began when he was approached by two Ladyboys who requested Mr. Jha join him at their room for some late-night fun. During the confrontation, the Ladyboys embraced Mr. Jha who promptly pushed the two Ladyboy’s away.

When they left, Mr. Jha realized one of them had taken his Gold Necklace worth an estimated 17,000 Baht, presumably during the embrace.

so he's the victim of the crime, yet the BIB is inspecting his passport. Why?

You're right, that is very odd. And the passport is definitely being inspected as opposed to just being looked at.

But could it be something to do with the little-known method of identifying correctly the person making the complaint, who knows? Maybe some kind of public enquiry is called for.

If you wear gold in Thailand (or anywhere, for that matter), you deserve to have it stolen.

"Deserve" is perhaps a bit harsh but you can certainly expect to have it stolen at some point. I would anyway.

Anyone who unnecessarily carries things of high value around must be a bit of an idiot, and there seems to be no shortage of such idiots here (of all nationalities and residential status).

Or could it be the well know BIB practice of looking for an angle for themselves before bothering to investigate the real crime. Hmm, yes indeed an inquiry would help. Lots in fact.

how can you possibly tell from the photograph they are inspecting his passport?blink.png To me it looks like they are just checking how to spell his name so they can fill in their forms properly?

We'll have to disagree on our interpretation of the BIBs actions here.

Yup, I can well imagine Pol. Sgt. Pongsiriwattanapanich having difficulties spelling the name "Jha".

Any involvement with the BiB requires a passport ''scan'', normal procedure.

I volunteered to do something for the BiB, a fun thing to entertain Thai folk, I am a TP volunteer, known to them for years, BUT, they demanded to photo copy my Passport to entertain the folk.....rolleyes.gif ................laugh.png

Only in your imagination.

Some people must really stand out as "marks." In 15 years of traveling and living in Thailand, the Philippines, Cambodia, Indonesia, and Malaysia I've never been the victim of a crime of any kind. On the other hand, I've got friends who get clipped on just about every visit...strange. Maybe it helps that I don't drink so always have my wits about me and don't wear flashy watches or jewelry and usually dress like a poor backpacking tourist.

I think you are right - I have only had one mugging attempt directed at me in 30 something years ( unsuccessful).

I do however wear a gold chain and a real Rolex but I get left alone. I have slept drunk in rain ditches, bars , roadsides and never yet been a victim - just lucky I guess.....

For the same reason why they make you wait for hours, then make a report, then charge 20 to 100 baht for the copy and do absolutely nothing after thatthumbsup.gif

I still do not understand, why they do not have a desk, where you write up your own report, then let them stamp it. End result is the same-total in action, just faster

Really?

Lots of people wear gold chain, many have ring or two on fingers. Why do you think these people deserve to be robbed?
