TPDH
Hello Is there any events or something going on in Bangkok on christmas eve? Or can someone recommend something to do? Something to see or a nice resturant etc.
Rumblecat
They do Christmas Eve dinner cruises along the river.http://www.loynava.com/christmas-bangkok.htmlI don't know, maybe be more specific about what sort of things you like to do... there are many things to do and many nice restaurants. You could go to Central World and look at the big Christmas tree and lights and then have an outdoor dinner at Zen or Red Sky there. Might be nice. Or I guess if you wanted food and show but cheaper than that you could go to Tawangdang... http://www.tawandang.com/eng/home.html
tim armstrong
Yes, its a bit lonely here at Christmas. I'm lucky that my wife and family see it as another party excuse and we generally have a good time, but I have sometimes found myself sitting alone with an Oz wine on the front verandah on Christmas Day reminiscing and missing family and stuff. But New Year is good. Pattaya with the fireworks is really spectacular.

beechguy
Is there really no events going on at all? It's a Buddhist country, what do you expect? I think if you are going to find something, it will need to be through a western related organization, church, or some restaurant that promotes an event for the holiday. HeavyDrinker
We've gone for the "friends at home" option this year as last year the 'old reliable'' of Lower Sukhumwit, proved a bit of a bust....however if you're on your own, then Lower Suk can provide plenty of festive cheer.... namdocmai
What kind of events do you expect? In my christian homecountry they all go to the church at christmasevening and that's it. Next day have a huge dinner with family. Second day go to some market or furniture-boulevard and have another big dinner somewhere. Young people might go to a danceparty and that's all there is. Rumblecat
Is there really no events going on at all? Of course there's stuff going on. But you've got to be a bit more specific about what you want to do and what you like. Do you like drinking? Are you going to be alone or with someone? Do you like clubs or quieter places? I mean, you say you want "something to do, something to see, or a nice restaurant..." That's pretty vague. What sort of thing are you after? Popular Post tw25rw
Some of us go there to escape Christmas.. Some of the best Christmases I have had have been in Bangkok where I was able to remain blissfully unaware it was Christmas apart from a few decorations around the place..

Yep...I read that article online the other day... And most of the major, prominent hotels around BKK seemed to be doing something special for both Christmas and New Years... Unfortunately,, the prices listed in that article seemed to start with just a few places at about 1,000 baht per person on the low end, most commonly were 2000 to 5000 per person, and had plenty in the 7-10K baht or more range per person. That's certainly a lot of Christmas cheer, especially for the hotel restaurants and bars collecting those kinds of tabs. http://bk.asia-city.com/restaurants/article/bangkok-year-end-dining-deals-christmas-new-years At least for the Christmas Eve events, though, it's not entirely clear that all the various special dinners have anything particularly Christmas-oriented -- other than probably doubling the normal prices at the same places. This year, I assume CentralWorld is having another big New Year's Eve gathering outside -- one that I've avoided ever since the bombings there a couple years ago. But on Christmas Eve and Christmas, they should still have all the lighted Christmas tree and Christmas themed displays outside in front of the mall, which makes for a nice atmosphere and good photo taking -- and presumably without the same crowds and risks that come with New Year's Eve. Yeah that's a fair assessment of it TallGuyJohninBKK, these christmas eve / NYE seem to be a bread and butter even for the hotels. No different to the west though But the BK article does give a fairly good spread of choice with the high end hotels gearing for the hi-so spend. Again nothing unusualy nor wrong with that approach. CTW's probably a good choice for overall inclusion, given the beer park et al, I'm trying to convince she who must be obeyed for to do either xmas eve or NYE down there. It then will come down to convincing her clique if it's kosher enough. I'm just pushing it for the ice cream though hahaha otherwise I've no interest in spending Xmas eve or NYE there Actually, if these protests continue on, there's a high chance it could be spent there... Which would be different and I'd have to adjust to my bucket list to include "Spending NYE with a protest movement" hahaha...
TallGuyJohninBKK
There are lower priced options for Christmas Eve, under 1000 a person, like Bourbon Street and probably Bully's Pub, and The Londoner. The magazines tend, for obvious reasons, to highlight the offerings of the bigger, high-priced places with bigger advertising budgets. At CW, there's a couple of restaurants on the third floor terrace entrance coming in from the BTS Skywalk entrance where they actually have tables that look out the big floor to ceiling glass windows over the front of the mall where all the displays are located. I think "The Terrace" with quite good modern Thai and seafood is one of them, and one or two others. But some folks, perhaps including myself, still don't consider it a real Christmas dinner unless there's turkey or roast beef or similar on the menu... And I'm pretty sure that won't be on offer at any of the regular, reasonably priced restaurants (as opposed to the pricey rooftop ones) spread around CentralWorld. Here's a link for Bourbon Street's Christmas offering: http://www.bourbonstbkk.com/christmas_2013.html Well, it looks like the Londoner is under 1000 for Christmas Eve, but over 1000 for Christmas Day dinner. https://www.facebook.com/LondonerBrewPub/events Edited December 22, 2013 by TallGuyJohninBKK

turgid
Is there really no events going on at all? If you got to Central World (nearest BTS is Chit Lom or Siam) they have several beer tents and stages set up along the front of the mall with some local live bands. They do a count down for Christmas and New Year. That stretch has many places nearby to eat and drink although not a whole lot of character. If you want really expensive Lebua has some formal dinners and entertainment which they been pitching me offers for. Great view but really expensive. Most of the big hotels do something Christmasy for the tourists and most of the Irish and English pubs offer Christmas meals. A lot of the expats go home for Christmas and the Christmas tourists tend to go for the beaches so the entertainment tends towards the local which is shopping, bands, drinking and fireworks. New Year is a bigger holiday here.
Buffy Frobisher
Head to Soi Cowboy. It's a Christmas Eve tradition there for complimentary roast pig on a spit and hot turkey dinner for all outside many of the bars in the Soi. A walk from one end to the other, with beer in hand and santa hat flashing, and you'll be a full as a bull's.....
