December 20, 201312 yr I have posted this on the Education forum, but no answers - so I am trying again here. My wife's sister has asked me to help send her daugther to university in Khon Kaen to study computers. I have 2 boys of my own currently studying at the Rajabhat Institute in Udon Thani, but it seems that there is no Rajabhat Institute in Khon Kaen. The only university I can find on the Internet is Khon Kaen University. So I hope someone can help answer a few questions. 1) What is the cost per term? I have heard that there is a charge for the general tuition fee plus a charge per credit. What are these charges? What is the usual number of credits per term. 2) Does Khon Kaen University have a weekend program for people who also work Monday-Friday? The Rajabhat Institutes have this, and that is what my sons do - work during the week and go to the univerisy on weekends. 3) Are there any other univeristies or colleges in Khon Kaen offering bachelor degrees? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance.
December 20, 201312 yr No idea about your specific questions but KKU has a good reputation and is solid in most disciplines
December 20, 201312 yr KKU would be a good university to send the boys to. It's generally regarded as the best Isaan (Equal with MSU), while the Rajabhat Universities usually have a much lower reputation. I don't know any specifics about it but can give you a bit of general information: The costs for the Thai program would likely be somewhere between 10,000 - 15,000 THB per term (Although they'd obviously need accommodation etc as well). Their school fees can be paid via a student loan from the government (see here, although it's only in Thai), which will also allow them to borrow towards their living costs as well. Also to the best of my knowledge, there aren't any other universities in Khon Kaen which offer bachelor degree programs, however Maha Sarakham has both MSU (1st equal in Isaan) and a Rajabhat University (As well as I think 5 technical colleges), and is only 90km from Khon Kaen. For more specific information on the course, every high school should have a careers advisor, who can give the students / parents more specific information about all of the various courses they might want to pursue. You can also check out http://www.kku.ac.th/ although the English version of the site likely relates more to the international programs, rather than the Thai programs, so you might want your wife to check out the Thai version of it. Also KKU did their entrance exams last month, I don't know if they're still accepting applications or not. I'd definitely advise getting in touch with the university and/or school careers advisor to find out more information.
December 20, 201312 yr There are several other universities in Khon Kaen. North Eastern University and Rajamangala (www.rmuti.ac.th/eng) to name just 2. I think there are at least 2 more but not sure of their names. Maybe try a Google.
December 21, 201312 yr I think the Rajabhats are better than their reputation implies. Pretty solid institutions, producing skilled grads
December 21, 201312 yr I think the Rajabhats are better than their reputation implies. Pretty solid institutions, producing skilled grads Reputation is everything in Thailand, so it doesnt matter how you personally view the grades, if future employers etc. view the Rajabhat Universitys as second rate then thats what counts surely. December 24, 201312 yr The tuition for a business major is 8,000 baht per term. No additional charges per credit. About 18-22 credits per term. For The Science Faculty, Chemistry Department, the tuition is 10,000 baht a term. No additional fee per credit. About 18-22 credits per term. A shared dormitory on campus will run about 4-6 thousand baht a term. If the student doesn't have someone else to share the room with, the school will find someone. Studios/apartments off campus vary, but many available for 4-6 thousand baht per month.
