A bio-diesel project to honour His Majesty the King will be introduced late this month

The Energy Ministry will officially introduce a bio-diesel production project initiated as part of the celebrations of His Majesty the King’s 60th anniversary of his ascension to the throne late this month.

Energy Deputy Permanent-Secretary Pornchai Rujiprapa (พรชัย รุจิประภา) said the target is set to produce 1 million litres of bio-diesel per day by 2007.

Mr. Pornchai said the project is a cooperation between the ministry and PTT Plc., Bangchak Petroleum Plc. and a few private firms seeking to support the use of alternative fuels.

He said the ministry, the Bank for Agriculture and Agricultural Cooperatives and the Treasury Department will also support the growing of oil palm in 700,000 rai this year for the production of bio-diesel.

The top three users of bio-diesel are Samut Sakhon, Ratchaburi and Chiang Mai, he added.
