Yingluck's reform roadblock must be cleared away

I'm with Ramrod711 on this one.

How about a system where your right to vote is tied directly to the amount of income tax you pay. As an example, say One vote for every 10,000 Baht in Taxes paid in the previous year. You just need to show your Tax paid receipt at the polling stations, to get your votes.

After all, the people who are creating the wealth and giving it to the government to manage, should have much more say in how it is used.

This would be a very fair system, and would ensure that good governance is practiced.

It would also put a big dent in vote buying as well, as the more well off citizens with more voting power are much less likely to sell their vote.

you certainly are a no brain er. coffee1.gif

Ah, another unbiased article in The Nation, this time from the great and the good, Thanong Khanthong.

You can always rely on Thanong for the truth, such as his reporting that Thaksin was seriously ill with prostate cancer and doctors had been despatched from Bangkok to Dubai.........http://www.oknation.net/blog/panuwat838084/2010/04/09/entry-1

You couldn't make it up. Well, he obviously did, but you know what I mean. tuzki-bunny-emoticon-007.gif.pagespeed.c

I sincerely believe that you think cheating in the house and failing to recognise the CC are traits of democracy.

If so the your soul is lost

Sent from my Nexus 4 using Thaivisa Connect Thailand mobile app

And if you think removing people from power via mobs and street noise corrects stuff like this and is a "trait of democracy" then you don't get it either. If the government has made mistakes, or is guilty of bad practice, you use the machinery of government to deal with it. That is how it works - simple.

The yellow faithful farangs don't won't democracy and nor do they understand. coffee1.gif

without any of the sent from crap.

On the one side is Thaksin/Yingluck and their merry band of red thugs who deceived the ignorant red masses who are now demonstrating against not being paid for their rice and being offered 30% on the vouchers they were given in

Keu of printed paper money. Unfortunately there is no trust in the voucher money or it would equate to it.

On the other side is rebel rousing Suthep supported at a distance by the elite and a growing number of others who want an end to corruption and a system of moral democracy - an aim not shared with their elitist 'Democrat' partners but much as the UK & America partnered with Russia to defeat a common enemy - so is it now with a mass of Thai society sick to the teeth of the absurd abuse and corruption treasonously foisted on the country by the current regime.

Unfortunately there is no other flag bearer for the reasonable demands of this body of the populace who have the intelligence to understand that Thaksin has to go for the good of the country.

Democracy is more than just one man - one vote. Why are children not allowed to vote? Unable to understand who they should vote for? Are the uneducated farmers of voting age any the wiser? Is democracy that simple?

Democracy surely requires a level of education that enables understanding of debate on the manner in which the country is governed. The Western nations have this level of education but Thailand most certainly doesn't. That is partly the reason Thailand gas been saddled with successive corrupt governments both Red and a Yellow oriented.

But worse than this is that there is no stomach for debate in Thailand. What little there is, is done on social media because the press is neither competent to report in a balanced and investigative manner and is simultaneously threatened by the defamation and other laws restricting that freedom. With no outlet, investigative journalism by Thais is hardly going to flourish. This suits both red and yellows and so the repressive and damaging laws exist.

So Surhep wants his people's assembly on his terms, Yingluck has her own suggested - after the election which she knows she can buy again because nothing has changed in the education system save the issue of defective tablets as a paint job to pretend something is feign done to improve education. Similarly corruption has had its paint job, though the paint used had little capacity for coverage and of course underneath all stays the same.

For democracy to exist there must be both free debate of the issues and people's involvement - I just don't see either side wanting to give the people the luxury of debate and to be honest I think there is a vast majority of Thais who have no care to become involved nor listen to debate and perhaps the politicians on the whole do not even have the ability to argue the points at issue in the country. So much for democracy as we understand it in the west - not that Thais understand nor give a hoot about that!

Should there be one man, one vote then? Are the ignorant or poor to be denied the chance to choose? That is not the answer either and would be a backward step for no section of society should be excluded.

Perhaps Suthep is right and there should be an appointed assembly to change a few things. Perhaps necessary in this baby democracy, before Thailand gets another monied election where Thaksin reigns triumphant not through policy ideas that benefit Thailand and move it forward but through the deception of the poor. The politicians are hood winking the uneducated for their personal gain and more importantly at the expense of Thailand and Thais at nearly all level. These poor uneducated people have trouble thinking past what will happen later today, let alone thinking into the future and certainly not possessing the mental agility of projecting those thoughts from a position of personal benefit to a societal one. Perhaps most populations possess these traits but it is a matter of scale, and Thailand is very near the bottom of that scale!

Yingluck is clinging to the processes laid down by the constitution she is trying to drastically amend to see her brother Thaskin back and free to continue his absorption of Thailand into the Shinawatra State. Yet she has the constitution on her side. It is like some movie script playing out but where is the hero?

Thailand needs to keep the thread of democracy it has but democracy is so much more than one man or woman or katoey, one vote, it needs a moral democracy, it needs a democracy based on thoughts for direction rather than who can pay the most baht for a persons vote.

The saddest thing is that neither of the major players or should I say, neither the Shinawatra team of actors onstage and off, nor Suthep's team actors including those behind the scenes are intent on providing what the vast majority of Thais want - a government of the people for the people and more importantly for the benefit of the country. Each play group has its own selfish agenda. Then there is the military, who failed miserably last time because of distrust, and who would blame people to distrust? Then the police are yet another loose cannon, perhaps more intent with maintaining their own mafia style corruption regardless of party politics!

Where is the light for Thailand. It seems pretty dark in here right now!

Nevermind it's TAT's time to party all around Bangkok so come on down to this black comedy and join in the foreworks.

If only someone cared!
