Thaksin's nephew to stand in Thai polls

And still he doesn't get the true meaning of Corruption, either that or he,believes the people who have listened to Suthep are too dim to listen to anyone but the man from Dubai! But i'm sure the Nephew is fully versed in Thai Politics, and will make a PTP, MP with or without, the necessary experience! And here rests Sutheps case for ridding the Country of a Cancerous Regime.Keep up the good work! the more two fingers, Suthep gets, the more determined he will get,and the more obvious it will all become.

IMHO one of the flaws of Thai "democracy" is the party list system which enables nepotism to the ultimate degree, allowing unelectable scum who would fail in the safest seat to be appointed.

What's the problem?

The voters will have choices, up to 53 in some cases. Why not let them choose?

Well the presence of a member of this family seems to be incendiary.

And this voting idea.... that is incendiary too!

Haahahaha another one for the family business.

If the Shinawatras get their way, this boy is destined to become at very least, a cabinet minister.

Let's hope Suthep or the Army throws out the trash of this government next month.

One more who likes dictatorship .

Let's hope Suthep never gets involved in governing this country !

In my wife's village, in Issan, they know who you voted for and intimidate you if you didn't vote for PTP. Hardly democratic. Bags of money are brought in and votes are bought. Money is promised to village headmen if PTP gets elected, and in the past, was delivered. The rumor recently in her village was 1 million bath to every village if Thaksin came back. People got very excited.

Now you know one reason why Bangkok people are not happy. Their tax rates are very high and they see their hard earned money going to support massively corrupt projects in the northeast.

The election system is broken and massively corrupt. Reform is desperately needed.

Please get some proof that this is not happening in other places by the other colour , as it might be the same in the south but than the money comes in yellow bags.

I'm sure it is. But I only have proof in my wife's village. Corruption is the #1 problem here in Thailand.

didn't here all this when Bush junior was made President and many think the crimes of Bushy senior were heinous (Iraq etc.) Let him stand and get beaten if the people so wish it

Just like the Kennedy of USA.

Or Mr. Lee of Singapore.

Or Bush, etc, power in the west also past within family.

How dare you speak so lowly of the Kennedy family. bah.gif

If you want to shut the Shiniwatra clan down and all of the votes that are purchased within Isan simply install proportional representation based on the regional contribution to the national GDP. This would totally destroy the parasitic stranglehold that the Shiniwatara's and Isan have in the Governance of the whole nation. Individual political parties would have to gain credibility over the whole country and not just the northern farm land and individual regions would be restricted to the number of MP's based on the regions GDP contribution..

"parasitic"?????

My word is 'exploited'.

Frankly speaking your word is cruel and crude.

And the Shin people need several more generations before they could become the new hereditary elites or could join the extant hereditary elites that have always funneled the country's resources into their bank accounts.

The Thai elites are feudal and they're determined to keep things that way.

But they can't and they won't.

Obviously you side with the Shinewatra clan and seems you have the same IQ as most of their voters... Let your wife do her own postings...

They choose whoever pays the most. Often they get paid twice or more by higher bidders.

Every single province in Thailand features political family dynasties with multiple members being MP's, senators, others controlling the P.A.O., controlling T.A.O.'s etc. The only difference with the Shinawatra/Damapong clan is they sit above other dynasties.

So many posters trying to overlay Western ideas on 'dog-eat-dog' Thai politics. It doesn't matter what works in the West, it doesn't matter what has been shown to be the best method in the West, over here they ALL keep it in the family and that is the way they do it, not just the Shin/Dams, all of them.

Here's the flaw with democracy: this particular constituency has had the following recent representatives:

present candidate: Yaowapa Shinawatra's son, outgoing MP: Yaowapa Shinawatra, previous MP: Yaowapa's driver, MP before that (disqualified for cheating): Yaowapa's daughter.

So, let the people decide but strangely you could even put Yaowapa's pet dog up as a candidate and the 'majority' will vote for it.

Can't PT see the counter-productive logic here?

Perhaps his Aunty-Yingluck should have a quiet word with him, and explain that his standing in what seems to be the clan's traditional constituency is sending the wrong signals, when she's busy trying to persuade the world that her family is not hungry for power or trying to build a nepotistic dynasty ? wink.png

http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/topic/687658-pm-yingluck-shinawatra-says-her-family-wants-peace-not-power/

But then, she'd have to say the same thing, to so many other friends and family-members too ! facepalm.gif

How odd, that no one mentioned the ascent of the former PM Abhisit.

Why does Abhisit get a pass? His father served the former military dictatorship in a cabinet position. His son was parachuted into politics. Abhisit never worked a day in his life in the private sector and avoided full military service and yet not a mention.

Maybe because this thread is about Thaksin and a part of his extended family. Part where 3 members have already been banned from politics for 5 years for corruption and now a 4th member enters politics.

So his mom, dad, sister and infamous uncles have all been convicted of corruption. Poor boy has to ensure he doesn't get tarred with the same brush.

They don't care what anyone thinks. All that matters is securing power and keeping it in the family.

Interestingly, check out the family links in the parliaments or whatever the equivalent in your own countries. You often find some supprising relationships and backgrounds. Many parliamentarians in the UK change their names for instance.

The Shins are a more open, in your face gang, as new players in the game often are.

To think that people didn't bat an eye lid 10 years ago when Chaisat Shinawatra was about to take the helm of the armed forces, while several years later another relative took the chief of police catching only some unwanted attention. But now, Thais are finally saying NO to this Mickey Mouse politics. Although how they can achieve and implement that NO isn't clear at all.

Always laughable to read the inanely ridiculous debating tactic that demands to "prove a negative".

LOL@absurdity of it.

And if the newest member nephew is anything like Yingluck, he declined the opportunity to enter politics repeatedly, until finally capitulating to family pressures in the end and agreed to run.
