Does Term Deposit money satisfy Immigration?

Featured Replies

If I put money in say a 7 month term deposit can I use it at my annual retirement visa renewal as all of or part of my 800,000 bahts to satisfy immigration.

Yes, fixed deposits are allowed.

Was no problem for me

as long as it is deposited in a Thai bank, yes it is acceptable.

Was acceptable in Khon Kaen.

Always good to show another normal deposit with turnovers for demonstrating "daily expenses".

Does there not have to be the option, even with penalties, to withdraw the money? I think a 100% locked-in a/c may not pass the most eagle-eyed immigration official.

It depends on your immigration department.

All fixed term/rate deposits in Thailand can be redeemed at any time, subject to loss of interest, other financial products not so, Immigration Dept knows that, I've been using fixed rate products for this purpose for eight years in three different locations without difficulty..

To make it clear:

I was (also) referring to such "Fixed Deposit Account" which allows to withdraw the money at any time (with a penalty).

It may be a radical idea but asking immigration has always worked for me. Take the passbook with you when you report your 90 day address and ask one of the officers.

Let's try this in the visas forum.

"I don't want to know why you can't. I want to know how you can!"

You can use fixed term account at the majority of immigration offices. It must though be of the type that allows withdrawals at any time and with no delay.

I have always used a Fixed Account in Bangkok without a problem.

Can anyone confirm from personal experience if this was acceptable at Mae Sai in C RAI

Last time I was there was sent to Chiang Saen who were closed !
