Price of life/wife: An honest appraisal

I met and happily married a Thai woman and live here in Thailand, I just can't fathom how you spend so much per month and at the same time taking care of her children and giving her an allowance without her being your wife. My wife and I live comfortably with relatively a good lifestyle . My recommendation firstly is to find yourself a Thai girls that has no baggage, if you like Thais, live with a set monthly amount that fits you budget, stay away from living in or near Bangkok and change your lifestyle to a more serene one. Treat yourself several times a months in eating out, while cooking most of the time at home. I wish you good luck in your life and much happiness .

Clearly a notable distinction. "girlfriend for hire" with or without kids to also pay for.

Truly mind boggling the nonchalant attitudes about "compensated girlfriends"

Any thoughts about the gf's that like you because they simply like you, enjoy time together, without being on your payroll ??????

not in thailand when you are 50 plus.

Not true, a weak rationalization for being taken. Find one in her thirties, at least. They usually have a bit of maturity, not so into consumer overdosing, and can see the value of a decent guy. If you are not a decent guy, I would go with the one night stands option: cheaper by far, they don't get to know the full depth of your jerkishness, variety, etc. Do you need a woman 24/7? Physical disability or something?

I give my wife money every month. She was working full time and not making enough to be worth my while. I told her to quit and I would give her double plus as she was worth more to me being free to go any where at the drop of a hat. Money being there. She was working full time six days a week. It did not fit into my life style so I changed it. I do not pay her a ridicules amount but it takes care of her mother and helps with the other family members. None of my business what she does with it. In 8 years I have given her a raise three times and will do so again as costs are rising. If money is the basis of a relationship run.

seems like you take care of all living expenses including her two kids - so why do you pay her 20k min per month. seems simple really. if she wanted to be with you and you had a normal relationship then you wouldnt be paying her to stay with you. that is technically called something else. i mean when you hire a girl it is ... well you know.

there are many girlfriends for hire in Thailand without having to take care of someone elses kids. an old friend of mine had a terrible embarrising habit of asking bar girls where ever he went, how much they would want to live with him. it ranged from 10 to 20k per month (but no kids). so you are paying over top rate plus plus smile.png.pagespeed.ce.CwSpBGGvqN.png

Given all the women unable to find suitable male companionship due to the significant gay / ladyboy / low end male % how difficult can it be to find a non remunerative one?

I agree totally. Just found out that mine thinks she's Hi So, but I didn't notice. Farang 1 Hi So salary 0.

if you dont want to phase out GF from the equation in France completely, i almost sure it will incur costs there too, dating isnt a zero sum game really, doesnt matter what one like to believe.

all you need is a new GF, most probably, with less financial needs attached?

I agree. It is not an "honest appraisal" if you consider a GF in Thailand and being celibate in France. If you really do. to have any housing expense in France and can grow your own food, France will be less expensive.... Unless you have a French GF.

Celebate in France? Are you sure? Speak to the local mairie, they can help.

Rent does not seem quite right : if you live rent free mortgage free in France, it means you own a home outright (unless you plan to go back with your parents ?). If this is the case, then since you are in Thailand, you can rent the French house to someone else, which will be at least 1000 Euros whatever house it is in France, so 45.000 baths per month !

Very difficult to rent out in France at a decent price. I have had my house on the market (sale) or rent for three years and not one bite due to the surfeit of properties in France. Rent out in Bordeaux or Paris is ok. Elsewhere is difficult. But I have had the same dilemma as the o/p. I own a house here though and I have a truly beautiful house in France where the price for sale has now dropped by 200k Euro (would you believe?). In France I would live on my own which is not always ok. Here I have a lovely Thai wife and the cost of living is very much cheaper. Off course I don't give my wife 20k a month. If we're in this together then she has to accept (and she does) that my support of her mother (5k a month) is very generous and she is quite happy with that. Fortunately I have a partner who is not interested in my cash and nor are her parents. When I was panicking about money a while back, they even gave (yes gave, not lent) me cash they keep under their mattress!

I do get nostalgic about living back in Europe but I think at the end of the day, life here is better, cheaper and more satisfying. Here I have a family.

The OP's attitude towards his life is a bit off the wall, but fairly typical for most farangs with Thai wives/partners. If they live together and share everything then she does not need 20k a month. She should accept that the O/p looks after the kids and pays the bills and food. Most Thais live on a lot less than 20k so I would suggest that she is like my ex-wife who's greed knew no boundaries. For her more was not enough. Get her sorted and it'll help you a great deal. And if she kicks and screams about having her money cut, then understand the stark reality: she loves your cash, not you. Same as my ex.

Er, if your property has dropped in value by 200k euros, firstly, I'm sorry, but secondly, you paid too much. Which department , how many beds, how much to rent please?

That is so expensive Frenchy.

We have large house in village up Khon Kaenpait 500,000 refurbished it completely for 1,000000 made a shop out of 1 room stocked it up and told her this is now your business, she does 4000 to 6000 day.

I pay the power 6000 month as I have big a/c in bed room and the lounge

I give her daughter she is like my own she 17 still goes school give her 1000 month she also works part time we take car of grand son schooling and mamma, pay her power 600 month, my wife so happy and proud her shop. When she needs I give her, but I decide when I think she needs, she never ask me for money, we are so happy I am lucky.

I am 72 she is 44.

I help some of the family at times, not a lot. I would not change it for the world.

You are paying far far to much you have to look at it all talk to her about the cost's tell her you are struggling. Your food bills are well over the top.

Time to move on if she will not work on it with you.

There is no doubt that living alone and simply is much cheaper than adding a Thai family.

For me, rent, food and living 'High on the Hogg' was much cheaper than raising two stepkids, buying a house, money to the family and the occasional medical bill for this uncle or that cousin, etc...

If this is a decision for someone arriving here, I soundly suggest buying a condo near a resort and renting any girlfriend you like - much cheaper than connecting long term.

How long is a piece of string?

Too many variables, not least being your (plural) income/assets/lifestyle, relative language skills, age and attractiveness.

Some are happy with B5K if they see a chance to improve themselves, maybe a long-term stable future with you.

Some know how to make over B100K and wouldn't (pretend to) settle down for less.

Yes, Yes, the old song is coming.

You talk about GF and wife, but you have to talk about "GF" or "wife" cause she endures your-self for money, for salary.

This must to be a very good romance.

Just make a trial, tell her from next month you have not money at all cause you have suffered a strong bankruptcy.

I guess whe will leave immediately and don't say good-by at all.

I have never understood this old goat thinking but I know in old age comes back the childhood, but please, so much.

I do not "pay" my wife.

She understands that "we" have a monthly income.

The income is "ours"

Simple things like rent, food, electricity and water have to be paid for.

What remains is "disposable" income which can be wasted or saved !smile.png

it really helps to have some savings so when the fridge needs replacing or the car/motorbike needs repair there is no drama !

Don't want to rent French house!! It is my bolt hole!!!

But it would cover the permanent escort and your enormous food+drink budget.. I would definitely reconsider that

why are you paying gf 20k. with her two kids, sounds like she should be paying you.

let her kids go to state school, its free.

let her provide her kids with pocket money.

not your responsibility.

just crazy.

BECAUSE he is 72 and the "GF employee" 44, and the illusion is not for FREE.

Do you have any smart question more?

I hope no-one becomes surprised when cleared up that the "GF employee" has Thai husband wub.png .

NOTHING clap2.gif CRAZY

  • 1 month later...

There seems sometimes a total obsession with money on many posts- the price of a beer - how much to give the gf/ bf / family etc.

Surely all you need to do is balance money in and money out, from the outset make it very clear that you will not fork out for new cars, houses, family etc etc.

My bf fully understands he has to go out to work to provide himself money to spend- I will pay for everything else- so has a nice condo, car and a house ( for the dog)

I intend to depart this mortal coil totally broke after whizzing around the world a few times and feel no obligation to leave anything.

Sometimes you have to use your gut, penny pincher or not, and make an assessment of situation.

Some people just spend too much with no regard to the future.

Boring topic. However, I strongly believe cost of living has more to do with how you live than where.

My friends back home constantly assume that living in Thailand is less expensive than US or Europe. And yes, that might be true, but not for all. Having Kids is a major expense here, also western food and amenities. Gas is cheap , cars are expensive . . . Some guys manage with 30k / month, others need 300. Same country different living style.

Decision weather to stay or go home depends on so many factors, besides budget.

One can argue any point here. How about the cost of a maid in Europe? ....

I'm not only over the hill; I'm over the next three or four hills as well. Sure it's about money. I know it's about money. I just glad they ask. They flirt. They talk to me. Strangers, women who are 18 years old smile and talk to me. I don't know what a prozac pill costs but I'm betting it's more than I spend to chat a bit with young women who could go on TV and compete in a beauty contest.

How many older men take anti depressant pills in Thailand? In the West everyone I knew was on some kind of psych meds. Here? The medication of choice is a L&L. Lek and Leo. Priceless!biggrin.png

they wouldnt be on anti depressants, if they wre single,

its looking at their choices every morning, that does it
