Any leniency due to New Year Immigration closures?

Featured Replies

Hi all,

My tourist visa 60 days expires today. I need to report to immigration for a 30 day extension. The immigration office here in Samui has been closed for the holidays, but I told it will reopen today.

I have heard/read that they may give a bit of leniency due to the holiday closures, and that if I go tomorrow they may not charge me for overstay.

Does anyone have any ideas?

Thanks

you need to go on the next day they are open, if that is today then you need to go today otherwise you leave yourself open for an overstay fine.

If your permit to stay had run out during the holiday closing you could go today and not pay an overstay.

In your case you must go today or you will pay 500 baht overstay if you go tomorrow.

Thanks guys. I went there today just to be safe. Busiest I have ever seen it.

Hence I wait to do my 90 day reporting. nice to have a 7 day window after the fact some times.

Hopefully, you went then.

They will not charge you overstay for days they were closed for the holidays, but if they reopened 2nd January after the 2nd you have no further excuses.

(You COULD have gone early and avoided the whole late scene drama, you know).
