Translation For 'stereotypes'?

Inspired by the very good input in the 'racism' thread, I thought I'd ask the collective wisdom on a thai translation for 'stereotypes'.

Again any dictionary entries I've found don't mean anything to most people. I've taken to using, quam chuah teuh ni sangkohm...tee doo took goom... gahn bang yaek la doo took....

I actually need to discuss this topic in my work and over a year of asking around on this have yet to get a solid translation most people readily understand. I think that may be because the concepts are different; Thai may have something similar to stereotype in English, but its not a total match.

Doo took (to look down on) is not always the best reference because not all stereotypes are inherintly negative, may be mild or comical.

Try discussing the new Thai movie on the Lao football team and you need this word!

Might use "leauk bpatibat", but this is more like doing something bad to a a group of people, or "yiat see peu cheu chat". There is a political word that I'm thinking of but can't remember it now.

I think it is better written in transliteration - "kwam cheua teu nee sangkhom... tee doo dtok gloom...gan bang yaek lae doo dtok"

I don't think there is a direct translation, but am interested to hear what the experts think.

Not really adding any translation here but a more simplistic way of looking at it might be to say something like "Thinking all _____ are the same"

If I didn't misunderstand the meaning of 'stereotype', so, it should mean ' ทัศนคติและความเชื่อ'. Or to make it clearer, it means ' ทัศนคติและความเชื่อที่บอกเล่าต่อ ๆ กันมาและเหมารวมว่ามันต้องเป็นไปตามนั้น '

For example;

คนทั่วไปเชื่อว่าชายชาวตะวันตกมีขนาดของอวัยวะสำคัญส่วนนั้นใหญ่กว่าชายชาวตะวันออก นั่นเป็นทัศนคติและความเชื่อที่บอกเล่าต่อ ๆ กันมาและเหมารวมว่ามันต้องเป็นเช่นนั้น

meaning - People believe that westerner guys have that important part of body bigger than easterner guys. That is stereotype.

Literally means appearance is bright, inside is hollow - All that glitters is not gold or Appearance can be deceptive (in a bad way)

Yes, the old saying is : ข้งนอกสุกใส ข้างในเป็นโพรง ( ข้างนอกสุกใส ข้างในต๊ะติ๊งโหน่ง)

But I have never heard this phrase : ข้างนอกขรุขระ ข้างในต๊ะติ๊งโหน่ง

Because the word : Tahtingnong....for my understanding...doesnt mean gold or good, am I right or wrong ?

Not even my Mom ever heard this phrase. Is this new one ?

Or am I away for too long ?
