May 17, 200620 yr Bangkok may emulate City of London town planning BANGKOK: -- Bangkok Governor Apirak Kosayodhin on Tuesday met visiting Lord Mayor of The City of London, Alderman David Brewer, discussing town planning that might be used to modify the City of Bangkok. Mr. Apirak said he wanted to improve Bangkok's town planning and adopt international standards by emulating the City of London. As head of the City of London, the Lord Mayor presides over its governing bodies. The mayor also has a much wider business role--working for Britain as a whole, supporting and promoting the world's leading international financial centre, the City of London, both at home and abroad. Lord Mayor Brewer's position as a trusted spokesman for the business community is enhanced by the entirely apolitical nature of his office According to Governor Apirak, London's architecture and orderly way of life, and well-organised public transport system will be the model in beautifying Bangkok. Cleanliness and safety will be included in Governor Apirak's plan for Bangkok to get a facelift, and Thailand's City of Angels would like to exchange tourists between the two cities. Alderman Brewer, as Lord Mayor of the City of London, is leading a British delegation from the business community and is visiting Thailand through Thursday to promote investment here. He will open the International Financial Services of London seminar, which is jointly sponsored by the British Embassy and the Ministry of Finance and will open at the Plaza Athenee Hotel on Wednesday. --TNA 2006-05-17
