Visa question - Swedish guy.

Featured Replies

Hi I have some questions regarding visa in Thailand! I am right now in Indonesia but will fly over to Thailand on January 13. If I remember correctly, you get as a Swedish citizen 30 day visa when entering the country.

However, so I'll stay for two months and would like to have a tourist visa. Can I buy this tourist visa when I arrive in Thailand's airport or how should I get it?

Also has a plan to leave Thailand after two months with bus to Laos, Cambodia and Vietnam but then return to Thailand again in mid April (Thai new year).

If I leave Thailand on March 13 and traveling in other countries, is it possible for me to return the flight path and get another 30 days?

You have enough time to apply for a tourist visa before you leave Indonesia. You could probably get a 2 entry visa.

You cannot apply for one on arrival.

It depends where you are in Indonesia, but you can apply for a tourist visa in Indonesia. You should try to get a double entry tourist visa. On 13 January you would get 60 days permission to stay on entry which can be extended for 30 more days. When you leave and come back in in early April you will activate the second 60 day entry.

If you come without a Visa you will get 30 days on entry, but if you make a border run by land you will only get 15 days, you would only get another 30 days if you flew out and back in.. So 2 border runs would be necessary by land, 1 by air You can not get a visa in Thailand, if you want a tourist visa you would have to go to a consulate in a neighboring country. When you come back in in March, if you come by air you will get 30 days, by land only 15.

Also if you come without a visa you could have a problem with the airline. Many airlines wuill not board you for your flight without a visa if you do not have a ticket exiting Thailand withih the first 30 days.

without having a flight out of Thailand within 30 days of arrival you might not be able to board the plane in Indonesia.

If you are near a Royal Thai Consulate a single entry tourist visa would be all you need - that would provide your first 60 days stay and when you return later a 30 day visa exempt entry. If you expect to stay longer than the 30 days on return a two entry visa now or during your travels a new tourist visa could also be obtained. You can not obtain a tourist visa at airport or once in Thailand.

You have a choice of the embassy in Jakarta or the honorary consulates in Bali or Medan to get a visa.
