[Cambodia] Manhunt ends; police say body that of suspect

Police confirmed yesterday that the body of a foreigner found in a Phnom Penh guesthouse on Monday was indeed that of Stuart James Green, the British national suspected in the killing of a young Cambodian woman late last month.

Municipal Police official Mom Sitha said yesterday that representatives of the British embassy had confirmed Green’s identity – without commenting on his possible involvement in the crime, but officials at the embassy were unavailable yesterday to confirm Sitha’s statement.

“The embassy has not said that the dead [man] was involved with the death of the young woman, but authorities [still] suspect him, because he broke a window and killed himself with the broken glass,†Sitha said.

Police had been searching for Green since the naked body of an unidentified Khmer woman was found with its throat slashed under the bed in his room. Green had collected his passport and left the night before.
