webfact
Protesters threaten to strengthen anti-govt movementBy Digital ContentBANGKOK, Jan 15 – An anti-government group has vowed to escalate their movement if the government insists on holding the general election on Feb 2.Uthai Yodmanee, coordinator of the Network of Students and People for Reform of Thailand (NSPRT), said the group will strengthen its non-violent activities to cancel the snap poll.He charged caretaker Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra with attempting to exploit democracy for the benefit of her family’s businesses. The group has set today as its deadline for the caretaker government to resign but Mr Uthai would not say if the group would seal off the Aeronautical Radio of Thailand and the stock market as threatened. The main anti-government movement, the People's Democratic Reform Committee (PDRC), stood firm that the functioning of the two critical agencies will not be disturbed by protesters.Mr Uthai said NSPRT will file a petition with the National Anti-Corruption Commission (NACC), charging caretaker Interior Minister Charupong Ruangsuwan and caretaker Education Minister Chaturon Chaisaeng with instigating Red Shirt activists during their speeches on stage at Rajamangala Stadium. He said the pair appeared on stage on the same day as Ekapob Lue-ra, also known as Tang Acheeva, who made a libellous statement against the monarch and has been in hiding since.Ms Yingluck may be involved in assisting Mr Ekapob, he alleged.Mr Uthai said NSPRT called on police to report investigation developments in the murder of two protesters, Thaweesak Pohkaeo and Wasu Suchantabutr, and a guard, Yuthana Ong-art, in separate attacks on Nov 30, Dec 26 and 27. Popular Post Snig27
oh, students fighting against democracy in order to open the door for the generals....bizarre twist on the usual pattern Quite - I'm old enough to remember the student rebellions of 1968 in Europe, the anti-war movements across the world in 65-73, the civil rights protests and marches in the US, Thai student protests of the 70s and so on. They all fought for a better world. Here we have so called students battling to make Thailand less free, to revert it to a 'democracy' akin to the heinous way US southern states limited (and in a way some still do) the rights of some of the nation's citizens. Thailand has a terrible rating in the global education standings - if these are actually students (and the jury is well and truly out on that) it speaks volumes about the shitty state of Thai educational institutions. The words these idiots are uttering are mindbendingly stupid at times.

At a factory we use in northern Bangkok the staff have been paid 550B to attend daily. This is not opinion or hearsay but fact. They were paid by outside organisers and the factory owner is less than pleased as you'd imagine. Still, if the numbers are as big as you claim - and you clearly have some solid evidence of that beyond the dwindling numbers in the streets - why not throw this government out in an election? Given that we know that the dems spent more on trying to buy votes last time (see the research by two independent political science groups as documented in the media in late December - this is fact, not opinion) you can't say that PT won it by buying votes last time. That claim has no substance. Keen to see the evidence of the numbers you are so sure of - some stats maybe? Can you link here? Not doubting you but some evidence would be good since you are stating all this as fact.
Popular Post catmac
Now look here Rich Teacher, we know you've doctored that photo! Our Dear Leader said there were over 100 million demonstrating yesterday, and He is never wrong, is He? Actually, I've been quite amazed at how little support there seems to be from Bangkokians. All the action seems to involve paid-for peasants and thugs from the South bussed in to cause havoc.

The words these idiots are uttering are mindbendingly stupid at times. Fighting for a better world: only the reds? Now you show me the person, who claims to fight for a worse world. Everybody wants to see things go better, the way to get there differs, mind you... And the only protest to compare with todays protesters are Thai protests of the past. European or US protest situations don't count, these people have a different cultural and political minset, which makes them incomparable. Thailands terrible rating in global education standings? Falls back on Taksin and his cronies: In the years he was in power he had no need to compromise with other parties, so he could implement his policies easily. Now what did change in education in all those years? Zero, nada, nothing! Because he wants them to act as voters, not as educated voters and not as intelligent people, who have learned to use their own brains. That's why even today Thais learn by rote, learn not to doubt, what the teacher/head honcho tells. And as long as you can pay to get a university degree, lots of politicians and rich kids will do exactly that: pay for the degree. BTW, why don't the Reds fight to change this stipulation, that in order to stand for election you need to hold an university degree. How democratic is that, if you exclude maybe 95% of all Thais from becoming a PM?

Its shut down, closed, traffic is not passing so why do they need to strength the protest? I hope the PDRC achieve a better Thailand for all the people. It's shutdown because it's being allowed, simple as that. Zero interference from state agencies. That's her play. I would imagine this is exactly what he didn't want. thaigold
A very sad and very fluid situation. Many people of high position in the Kingdom have bet the farm on these street demonstrations. So far they have failed because the political majority have not taken the bait (violence). Just as these so called democrats have renounced their sworn duties to remain representatives of their Party constituency they are fouling their own nest's - Bangkok. after all is their own constituency. Pheu Thai should just ignore them ... It appears that Mr. Thaksin has outsmarted them again. Edited January 15, 2014 by thaigold
