Which Beach?

Given the choice which beach would you choose to live near to, which beach would you avoid and the reasons why.

Is there an online map showing the different Phuket beach locations.

Surely in Phuket the best beaches for a farang to live near are either Niharn or Rawai. The others are far too touristy. Says it all really.

I don't see three questions! Perhaps if you narrowed down what you are looking for and why we could be more helpful.

What season are you considering? (some beaches aren't very safe during low season)

What activities do you like?(some beaches don't have jet skis and para-sailling.)

Are you moving here or just planning a visit? (if you are moving here there are numerous other considerations as to access to other services)

Huh? I was asking Seonai a real (and relevant question ....) At least other posters see this ... even if you can't.

We don't all have the same wants or needs in places to live ... your initial post left almost nothing to speculate on .. and although I have driven the entire island a few times Phuket isn't my area os expertise .. so I asked Seonai a question ...

(oh well )

Some people choose to live on small rather isolated places .... some like to have a Burgerking or a movie theater ... That was the point of my question ... it wasn't inflammatory nor off base ... <unlike a certain reply>

I live right by Nai Yang beach, 5 minutes from the airport. Less touristy, less hassle from touts, good food right on the beach. Beautiful, safe swimming all year round. Oh and there are less 'expats' (which I count as a good thing...)

I avoid Patong, Nai Harn and Rawii for the above reasons!!

As for the map, I can't help you but I'm sure others can!

I'm guessing that some posts have been deleted, because I don't understand what the OP says in his second post, particularly about jdinasia's post, which I thought was perfectly ok.

To the OP, my favourite place on the planet is Nai Thon beach. Very quiet and pretty much deserted most of the time. Achingly beautiful, with a couple of restaurants but no bars. The bad news is it is awkward to get to in rainy season and takes a good while at any time. I probably wouldn't live there because it is very inconvenient for everything except the most spectacular beach in the world.

After Nai Thon, Bang Tao is my favourite, for similar reasons, although it is more convenient.

Like Simon43 I also like Nai Yang, but unlike toaster, I've never had a problem with aircraft noise there.

Sadly, Surin beach is getting a bit busy and dirty.

Am learning more from people's posts. Being at heart a businessman what attracts me to a beach area that I am gonna be spending lots of time at is a large # of tourists but what turns me off is that special kind of bar ... am starting out on a trip around the South again this week looking at places again (We are looking closest at Krabi)

my personal favorites are laem sing and kata noi,good food on the beach,quiet...ish,no bar beers anywhere near so the louts do not venture there(apart from me ).the walk up-down to laem sing can be a bit hairy in the wet though.

Clarification of what?

I'm assuming what facilities are surrounding the beach in question...restaurants, bars, pubs, shops, clubs. If this isnt a consideration than prob best to state as much.

it's not on the beach - land is too expensive! It's about 600 metres away from the beach, on the small soi leading to the national park (directly opposite the radio aerials at the airport).

Although long-term stayers are welcome in our 'luxury' bungalows, our little resort is being especially constructed for infirm/wheelchair/blind tourists etc, although able-bodied are most welcome! Each bungalow has no steps to impede access, with wide doorways, accessible bathroom, all switches at wheelchair height and with braille lettering etc etc etc.

I could go on but George would probably accuse me of self-promotion

You have more of a chance to spot the hotties on the islands in and around Phi Phi Island, Patong is okay but too many people want to sell you too many things in Patong, it can be really annoying and everything is 3 times the price. My opinion would be to get out and about in Phuket and explore. Living on the beach was my intention when I first moved here and now I have settled in up on the hills with a beautiful seaview and a nice cool breeze in the afternoons. I am not to sure what the beach is called but there is one that looks okay next to Patong and also over towards Club Med beach. The problem with touristy spots in Phuket is you can't even sit down at Starbucks and have coffee without 20 people approaching you to buy something. You really have to experience it to understand what the local Phukers mean

Well ... I just got back from the South .... <and Malcolms flamings aside> ... I ended up leasing a house for a year in Kamala. I had expected to be in Krabi but the partner thought he could get better employment in Phuket.

Picked Kamala because it is relatively quiet and easy to get both into Patong for nightlife/food/work ... and Phuket town for shopping etc ... and easy enough for the partner to get to work wherever!

So expect to see various questions from me in the forum from now on

Good choice, IMHO. I'm in Bang Tao for similar reasons. Decent local bars and restaurants too, so don't have to head down to Patong if I don't fancy a 30 minute drive.
