No bird flu outbreak in Thailand: Commerce official

The Nation

BANGKOK: -- A Commerce Ministry's official announced Wednesday that there was no spread of bird flu in Thailand.

Panjit Pissawong, deputy director-general of the Foreign Trade Department, said that following social media-based rumours of the incident, investigaton by the Livestock Department and the association of Thai chicken exporters showed a negative result.

"There’s definitely no bird flu outbreak in Thailand," she said, adding that the Agriculture and Agricultural Cooperatives Ministry has effectively suppressed the disease since 2008.

She also noted that several countries have resumed frozen chicken imports from Thailand, after a freeze from 2004, including Russia, South Africa, Malaysia, Hong Kong, the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, the European Union and Singapore.

It was commerce officials who lied about bird flu last time, the (CP affiliated) deputy minister as I recall. So while hoping he is correct I take their poultry comments with a grain of salt these days.

At that time Newin said anyone who said bird flu was here wasn't patriotic. It was a month before the truth was admitted but it was done in the interests of safeguarding chicken exports so it must have been ok to export potentially diseased birds.

Well. Better get out the alcohol gel ....

I feel convinced especially considering what we was told to believe from the Pm 10 years ago and now its repeated........by the same media control...xhuh.png.pagespeed.ic.6VcCaNwNXg.png

No bird flu outbreak in Thailand: Commerce official

How does that explain all the chicks I saw buying shitloads of Tylenol the other day?

Sure hope I don't have Bird Flu but whatever descended on me Tuesday afternoon has become rather nasty.

Haven't eaten chook or been near it for weeks but had some Coconut Yogurt from Makro and a few minutes later felt a tight sensation at the back of my nostrils.(Not suggesting the Yogurt was contaminated but who knows?) Within a few hours I was sneezing all over the place. Now getting down into my throat. Will sleep in one of the spare rooms tonight as I don't want wife or daughter to get it.

Bird flu is back in the Thai news.

Why deny something non existing? Because it exists and people don't want others to find out?

Only the fool says "I am not a fool."

Have a friend who works on a CP own poultry farm in Chiangmai and she tells a different story, staff have been stood down and they are destroying birds. They have also been told not to say anything.

I heard something similar from a friend who is a vet.

Note it is the commerce ministry not the ministry of agriculture, or public health making this statement.

That alone says where the priority lies.

Was this message passed on to the official by Skype, IIRC the word last time was tell the world it's bird colic.

I can only remember a complete denial of bird flu reinforced by Newin's comment then after a month the official responsible for checking on bird flu admitted he had lied but had done so to protect exports. I really can't recall the suggestion of a lesser disease but am only too happy to be corrected,

Keep it quiet for the good of the country no doubt ! Very patriotic, Newin must be beaming with pride.

If this is true, I am very disappointed.

There are five times more chickens than people in my village, many are cocks for fighting.

They run loose, unconfined ripping up gardens, pooping on everything and start screaming at 4 am each morning.

The only chicken I like is the cooked one on my plate.

I was really hoping that the bird flu would breakout in Thailand again so I could bring an infected bird home to the village.

Last time it killed almost all of the chickens in a neighboring village, but didn't make it to ours.

'Panjit Pissawong said: "There’s definitely no bird flu outbreak in Thailand,"' Which tells us everything we need to know.

I wouldn't waste the salt.
