Certificate of Residence at Kap Choeng immigration

If Im on a tourist visa (arrived in LOS early December 2013) and I need the residence certificate to renew my expired drivers licence.

Will immigration issue me the paper if I only have a hotel receipt where Im staying proving that I have lived there since arriving in LOS. I dont have any residence book that one might have if renting a condo etc.

If they will not give me COR and if I drive or ride using my drivers licence from home plus carrying my International drivers licence, is this ok if pulled over by the police?

thanks

Most immigration offices will only issue a certificate of residence if you are here on an extension of stay.

If you are a "tourist", why would they issue a certificate stating that you are a resident?

You might be able to get one from your embassy, but it will cost a lot!

1. IDL are illegal IDP are legal.

2. Kap Choeng Immigration will issue a COR if your on a tourist visa. I have seen them do it.

Try and get a letter from your hotel saying your staying with a copy of owners ID and signed. Also as long as your dl has not gone past 1 year over expiration you can renew but as being on a tourist visa you will only get another 1 year temporary dl. Also as long as your only here as a tourist it is legal to drive on your home country dl for 90 days.

One other option is to go to a local stationers and buy a pad of house rental agreement forms. Make one out so it appears that you are renting a house in the area.

I used an expired rental agreement on one occasion to get the certificate of residence.

Kap Choeng will likely charge 500 Baht. Not sure it is on their tariff list (khwaibah will know) and I doubt you will get a receipt..

I may be wrong but I think you will have to start from scratch with a one year provisional licence - an expuired licence cannot be renewed. I will happily stand corrected on that if someone knows different.

As you suggest, it's a local tariff. I think it depends on how many months you have let your D/L expire.

500 baht and no receipt. Good chance they will accept your hotel receipt.
