I sent some games to my son in New Zealand for christmas but they wont work due to regional security (is that the right phrase?). There seems to be two options...

1. send him an xbox bought here... but will the pal here work with the pal there? If so what model?

2. send him a mod chip... but where can I get one, is it easy to fit, will it work?

Any help appreciated.

I have been in computers all my life (40 years) but have rarely played a game as I think it is a waste of time and brain power. Tried to suggest this to my son once, all hell broke loose! biggrin.png

For the 2nd option, I am sure chips exist in NZ, and your son should be able to find a place to deal with it.

About the 1st option, he has an existing Xbox, I would assume...so, sending him another one from here, if that is in a good shape, would be waste of money.

It could be cheaper for him to buy those games in NZ.

As alternative, he can send you back those games, and you sell them here locally, and recover some money.

I don't know which version of Xbox 360 your son has, but the first version of it can be software modded, no chip or soldering needed. You will have to open it up though, since it is the dvd rom that is modded and you need to connect it to a Sata port on your MB.

I modded mine myself. google is your friend

If money is no problem get him a ps4 no regional restrictions :-). As far as I know there is no way around the region restrictions on the 360. Some games are region free which means they will work anywhere .
