What type of non-immigrant visa is needed for a work permit?

Featured Replies

Hello guys, a quick question in my search for finally getting the right visa.

I have been looking through the forums and all but 1 that I found say that you would need a "B" visa to get a work permit. This would be the standard I guess. But as I am a student going to do an internship (paid even) I am wondering which visa I would need. In all communication with the company we have been speaking about an "ED" visa and so I plan to apply for that next monday. Now the offices are closed and I am starting to doubt wheter or not I should apply for the "ED" or go for the "B".

Any advice is very welcome.

Oh my university in my home country has given me the letter proving I am studying their and need to do the internship as part of the program, I am no longer connected to any Thai university.

The one site that I did find stating that any non immigrant visa would do for the work permit is this one (and even there there is just one member stating it): http://www.orientexpat.com/forum/24197-can-you-get-a-work-permit-in-thailand-on-any-type-of-non-immigrant-visa/

Hi Peter,

You need Non-imm "B" , this "B" stands for business, this is the only type of visa (by Thai law) that allows you to work legally whether to teache at school or work for a company, or whatever typ of business,

Regards

In most parts of Thailand you wold find it impossible to apply for a Work Permit with a Non Immigrant 'ED' Visa.

Because you are not linked to a Thai University the Non Immigrant 'B' Visa route is definitely the way to go.

Incorrect. Many are issued wp's on a non-o based upon marriage as well as extensions thereof.

An education visa means that you are here to study, not to work. You need a 'B' type or 'O' type to get a WP.
