sunshine51
There are many times I wish I had some way of protecting my lenses from knocks....serious knocks or simple knocks. You know the kind....walk down a street...lens gets knocked by anything from another human to a pole or a chair or table or anything for that matter. Sometimes a pricey filter gets broken in the knock or worse...the lens gets nackered altogether. After shooting Taipusam in Penang (17th this month) and having me trusty 70-200 bang into nearly everything when not up at my eye and a rather pricey Tiffen UV filter get cracked (later replaced in Penang at a high price mind you) I decided to peruse the internet and without much difficulty I found the following web-site.... http://deluxgear.com/ I'm mainly interested in their Lens Guards & Lens Bumpers plus they have a few other interesting items some may like. So I thought I'd share this info..even though the closest dealer is in Singapore and their stuff is not cheap....But Hey....compared to buying a new filter or having a lens repaired...their prices are quite reasonable. Here's some of their stuff.... Lens Guards... Lens Cradles... Edited January 26, 2014 by sunshine51
Fiddlesticks
Now those things are butt-ugly! Looks more like a lens condom for practicing safe shooting! I think having my lens hood and a lens cap is safe enough and not so UGLY!

Fiddlesticks
I find this to me much more effective plus . . . it enhances my stealthy approach to street photography.
Fiddlesticks
Here is a the perfect gift for the street photographer who not only wants to be stealthy but is also afraid to put the 'lens condom' on his/her camera lens.
MJP
Sunshine brings up a good point since we're now all into this BlackRapid or CarrySpeed sling thing. Lenses are a bit more vulnerable as a. they hang down to the side and b. you tend to forget you're carrying a camera. I reckon a couple of pairs of good quality golfing socks would do it, adapted of course.
draggons
Yep. reckon a pair of these wrapped round my big lens would do

I won't have to get the sewing machine out now you've reminded me.

sunshine51
It just so happened that while on Penang my koozie was wrapped around a Tiger...canned variety...not the 4 legged ones! This is a great idea though, however one would almost have to carry a bag of koozies if they're like me as I usually always selflessly leave a couple behind. Either that or they sprout wings & fly off. Note: It is essential that the koozie being used to protect a lens is dry and not soaked with can or bottle sweat! MJP
wish had ur $$$ MJP :-) Haven't got 'em yet, that's why a. I'm waiting on a plane in Bangers right now to take me back to work and b. it won't be until the end of 2014 and may require a sale of all the Pentax kit first. It's added up to around £7000. Which is about the same as all this crop stuff's cost but of course fewer lenses. Edited January 28, 2014 by MJP
sunshine51
MJP...but how will you protect that 800e and the Zeiss lens(s) once you get it/them? Ahhhh...there's the rub matey. Insurance will help but knocks & bangs will only drive up your premiums. Then again...when you're "horny" insurance goes right out the window don't it? I've been there! PS...Hope you had a lovely flight! Edited January 28, 2014 by sunshine51
MJP
I'll need to insure this lot and I've found this sling thing is not good for knocks and bangs. You forget the camera thing is there. Got to go to bed, up at 4am. Just been talking with the kids on Skype, it's really good.
