Hi there,

I am from South Africa and in Thailand on a 90 days 'immigrant ed' visa. Is it possible to extend this, and for how long? Do I have other options to stay longer?

Kind regards!

Are you study here ? if you study here you can apply for one year visa as a student visa. You need some document from your school or university. It's very easy and stamp for one year immediately on that date. If you plan to working in Thailand , you can apply for a Work Permit and then apply for one year visa based on Business.

Yes its possible to extend this class of visa..............question is do you qualify?

Give us a bit more info on what exactly you are doing here. :o

I did the TEFL certification course and is currently temporarily teaching at a Language institute. What do I need to Qualify for an extension? I am hoping to get a permanent teaching position in September, but until then I am not sure what to do. My visa expires on the 28'th of May.

Thank you very much for your help!

Sounds to me as though you are currently working illegally.

Presumably you were granted the initial Non Imm Ed on the basis of doing the TEFL course..............reading between the lines i somehow do not think you will qualify for any type of extension to this visa.

If you intend to teach you will need to obtain a Non Imm B visa from a neighbouring country and a work permit................if you meet the requirments that is.

I know I'm teaching illegally at the moment, and i am not comfortable with that, but since I can only get a permanent teaching position in September I don't have much of a choice. (Survival and all.)

I meet all the necessary requirements for a work permit. I just need to find out how I can stay in Thailand until then? Can I go out of the country and obtain a 3 month tourist visa? Where would you suggest, and do you perhaps know how much it will cost?

I really appreciate your help!

Kind regards.

Penang Malaysia is the most accomodating Consulate.............you/ll get a double entry tourist visa there no problem which will carry you passed Sept.

Cost..........hard to say, depends on how you want to travel, where you are travelling from, where you want to stay when you arrive.

Rough estimate...........round trip to penang/hotel 2 nights /food /visa fee .......... approx 6000 baht.

Without knowing where you are though its hard to say.

You know the score regards working without a work permit so won't say anything.

(A tourist visa gets you a 60 day stay upon re-entering Thailand by the way not 3 months....the extra "month" can be obtained by extending within Thailand at local Immigration.....cost 1900 baht)

Some more questions,

I went to immigration today and got a 21 day extension on my 'non-immigrant ed' visa. What would you suggest I do after this? Visa runs? Or apply for a tourist visa in Penang? Or is there other options that will carry me through to September? I have to also consider costs involved.

Once again, thanks so much for the help!
