why buy an aircard when mobile internet use the same network ?

Featured Replies

hello,

i really womnder why people buy a useless aircard when they can just connect their computer to mobile?

Love being cheated?

Dont BS me, the network is exactly the same and plans similar!

So why?

Thanks.

I think they are used with Tablets which do not have SIM card capability. I had one for one of my tablets, but gave it away.

Some people don't have smartphones.

Aircards are geared towards mobile business customers who take their current data plans with them and are not concerned with cost. Setting up cellular service when you do a lot of international travel is a hassle and time consuming.

I got mine before i got a smartphone. Still have it as backup if the phone battery dies. Only thing i have done with it is upgrade the sim to 3g, pay as you go.

Comes in handy for people that play a lot of games or don't want to lose any bandwidth on important things like facebook..............:)

My aircard sits in my router which is hardwired to every room in the house, as well as to my CCTV system and my alarm system. Whenever the CCTV detects a movement the alarm is activated which send me an email with the alarm code, while the CCTV system takes snapshots every 3 seconds which are also sent to my email.

All while I'm maybe 50 km away with my smart phone in my pocket, on which i receive the emails, and which has a Sim inserted with the same number as the one in my aircard.

I could give another 20 valid reasons to the troll question in the OP, but I'm not gonna waste more time.

I have one for my desktop.

My phone is not smart.

which is the best pay and go sim for my tablet and aircard here ...

For those talking about using them for your stationary network, why would you do that when the rate is so expensive?

Obviously you're sticking to low-bandwidth usage, personally I go through an average of 3-4 GB per day so for me out of the question.

There are 3G packages for the Sims for as little as 299 baht a month for unlimited (that is one of the current DTAC packages). If you are using 3 - 4 GB a day, it is worth looking at, even as just a backup, IMHO

Just be aware that is not unlimited 3G speeds but capped at a few gigabytes per month at which point it drops to around 384kbps, that is edge speeds. Have not seen a package that gives you unlimited data at full 3G speeds.

Yes, "unlimited" is a total scam, no such thing at decent rates, the Edge data rate is COMPLETELY useless for anything but text-only sites and messaging, completely unbearable for even normal browsing, forget about file transfers.

Yep, true. But it is still unlimited upload/download and even at something like 384kbps, it is still very workable for most internet usage, especially if used as a backup option.

Heavy file transferring is of course another matter, but not everyone does this whether it is for business or torrents, etc............wink.png

This came up in the context of my 3-4 GB daily usage pattern.

But most of the 3G packages fall back to 128 kbps, which is not usable .

Usable for e-mail and basic web browsing is about it.

AIS offers show their 89,249,399 Baht packages fall back to 64kbps which is pretty dire. Their 599,799,1699 Baht packages fall back to 128 kbps, 256 kbps and 384 kbps respectively. AIS 3G DTAC show fall back to 384kbps. True fallback to 128kbps.

Becuase some people have no access to land lines or any other nearby internet connection device

Move

Move

My life does not evolve around good internet service....thank god.

After reading all these replies I am also totally convinced that these aircards are totally useless and only a way to cheat 10000 thb more from the pockets of people who know and want to know nothing...

Except for those without smartphones.

And mine cost B600
