Offical Alcohol Sales Restrictions at Election?

Featured Replies

I am reading some conflicting information in regards to when alcohol sales are prohibited at the (possible) up coming election on Sunday.

I have not been able to find an "Official" source of information.

Anybody have a link or definite information?

(possible): it will take place with more or less participation.

The only info I can give you: it has always been an alcohol ban at elections.

There was comparably strikt enforcement at the last election.

Even at my village shop they were afraid to sell something while there was police on the opposite side of the street.

The dozens of messages I find in the internet are by no way conflicting.

Starts Saturday, FEB 1, 2014 at 18:00h, ends Sunday FEB 2, 24:00h (midnight).

Nothing "official" (go.th) though amongst the links, sorry.

Found it, this is the official site, election commision.

Of course in Thai only,

http://www2.ect.go.th/about.php?Province=mp54&SiteMenuID=7634

Amongst the many things forbidden (a list of 10 entries):

ห้ามหาเสียงและห้ามขายหรือจัดเลี้ยงสุรา ตั้งแต่ 18.00 น. ของวันก่อน วันเลือกตั้งจนสิ้นสุดวันเลือกตั้ง

"Do not sell or campaign, and banquet liquor from 18:00h on the day before election day until the end of election day."

(its a Google translation, maybe someone can do it better)

banquet (เลี้ยง) : "to have a banquet; to hold a party or feast"

That info falls inline with my understanding and will put an "argument" to bed smile.png

Interesting, I'm going to a restaurant tomorrow night with some of the girlfriends friends who are coming into Hua Hin for the weekend. They arrived here this afternoon. As they have children I suspect they will head back to their hotel quite early.

My plan was to go to a few bars after the meal, I forgot about this election. I was planning on having a good drink after this meal as the last time I went out for a drink was New years Eve.

Oh well, maybe next week I guess.
