PATTAYA: -- A 78 year old Russian woman suffered a suspected broken leg after she was struck by a fast-moving Jet Ski driven by an Indian, which had left the water and came onto the beach.

The incident occurred in front of Soi 10 on Pattaya Beach and resulted in the leg injuries sustained by Mrs. Valentina Porova aged 78. Mr. Katen Petan aged 28 from India had been detained by Police and was taken to the Police Station while the victim was taken off to Hospital.

Khun Wutanyu aged 20 had rented the Jet Ski to the Indian and had already warned him about his erratic driving. He had also driven into the swimming area which was not permitted and could have seen the operator receive a heavy fine.

I was in Pattaya a few years ago and these three Indians rented Jet skies. They drove them close to shore where kids were swimming and acting like fools. People was yelling at them to move away from the shore. They started to crisscross their jet skis and of course one hit the other one and of course you know the rest of the story from here.

The rental business also has a duty of care. Did they even check to see if he was licenced? These things are very dangerous in the hands of inexperienced and unlicenced riders. Bothe rider and rental operator should be facing charges and be required to pay all medical costs.

Another "Problem" to watch out for .......

There are enough unexpected "hazards" when driving along Beach Road, without having to avoid an "over zealous" Indian on a jet ski ......

"You couldn't make it up" ....what occurs here

the police man is trying to work out how much he can extract from the indian, hes thinking this guys stupidity sets a new precedence so the bribe, extortion, fine should be inline with the precedence and the new car in the showroom

I'd love to know how much the operator charged for the damage to the jet ski? I'm sure there is well over 1 million baht in a scratch or maybe a dent......

You just want to say the mind boggles, but you can't can you?

Anyone that lives there should surely be asking questions as to what sort of regulations there are governing these activities.

OK OK, don't all laugh at once

but seriously

Signs on the beach. BEWARE, WATCH OUT. inexperienced, dangerous jet ski drivers about.

Why not have one section of the beach (a long way from the main swimming area where nobody else wants to go to) just for jet skis and ensure they keep in that area. Also put a sign up what the fine will be if you go out of the area and make it so high they don't go out side. Solves two problems one safety and gives the BiB a chance to earn real money and get them off our backs for such trivial matters.

Australia. You must complete a course before you are granted a licence for a jetski and you are also subject to drink driving laws whilst on the water or involved in a collision with your jetski.

...year after year after year....if no changes or improvements are made....then the present situation must suit someone in the end....

Yes, could easily have been my Mum (she will be someone's Mum, so I share the sympathy - hope she has medical insurance).

Licenced to do what?

I think it's ridiculous that they hold the jet-ski rental guy responsible as well. It's not his fault that the Indian guy drove like a maniac!!!
