I was reading speak like a thai 2 the other day and came across the expression

Conman, which is translated as sip-beart (18) mong-gut (crowns)

Does anyone know what the origin of this is?

Another word for cons and fraud is ต้มตุ๋น.

This is usually used for common frauds.

18 มงกุฎ is usually used for highly skilled conmen or elaborate scams.
