Suthep wants reform. The protests are the vehicle to facilitate that occurring. He isn't in a position to save the farmers, not even from themselves. But Suthep can advance his objective and perhaps help get protective mechanisms, checks and balances, established within the political landscape so that this sort of brazen government theft can never occur again.

I don't understand your post,, I could be missing something (really I could) but how has Suthep created the issue of the farmers not being paid? there were issues with the rice pledging scheme long before the protests. If the money was there to pay them before the protests why isn't it there now?

Also, he is protesting against the current government. One of the big issues created by the government is the failure of the rice pledging scheme. So, if you were apposing the government would you not bring this up? If you didn't you surely would be stupid.

Basically don't lose sight of the fact that the farmers are in the mess they are in because they trusted the government, this is a simple fact. Whether I or anyone agrees with the protests or not does not change this fact. They should be thoroughly ashamed of what they have done to these poor people. Hmm let's see if I have this right: Suthep et al get Yingluck to resign and become caretake pm, and as such she can't pay off the farmers, according to some court or whoever happens to be in that building at the time. He has nothing to do with them not getting paid. The government are still in power remember, it is them who have not paid them, it is them who handled the scam, it is them who used this policy to buy millions of votes then reneged on all their promises while blaming others.

Even without his pressuring the banks that they were risking their depositor's funds which they would have been. The banking system would never allow the lending, the unions were against it, their employees were against it, and the constitution is against it. The depositors would deffo be against it and their run on a particular bank would end in collapse.

Yet the government would have FORCED the lending anyway... They were happy that the banks MUST take the risk or pay the price in a backlash from Thaksin.

Suthep merely forced the issue before this government also ended up destroying Thailand banking system along with everything else they have touched.

Lets get this straight once and for all, the PDRC and Suthep have nothing, zip, zero, nada to do with the shoddy YL administration not paying the farmers. The only reason they haven't been paid is that all the money has been pilfered by YL cronies and there is nothing left in the pot.
