I am looking for some suggestions on fun things to do with kids 6-10 years old for one day in BKK with the possibility of avoiding the protest areas and no roller coaster rides.

Ancient City, Erawan Museum (its better then its sounds), Siam Water Park, Ride the Chao Phrya Express Boat to Nonthaburi, Siam Ocean World, Rama 9 Park.

Paragon has the movies theaters and the aquarium and plenty of play areas for a days fun

I would second Siam Ocean World. It's well worth the price of admission. Go in the glass bottom boat and feed the fish by hand. Steep your feet in a bath of those little fish that clean your skin. The kids will love it. We've been twice it's great. Bring your camera.

Then after you can visit the food court upstairs which is awesome and inexpensive.

Movie theatres are in the same location and tons of air con shopping.
