scam on protesters ?

Featured Replies

anyone hear about police shaking down some protesters for money to keep out of jail?

our neighbor was one of the ones making food at the protests early on, now police persons are telling her to pay up or else.

Suthep is shaking down protesters for money to "keep on protesting". giggle.gif

Everyone pays to sell on the street. It's probably not "police', but the BMA Thetsakij.

Guess what it's ALL about money

The reality is that it isn't the vendors getting scammed.

They're paying for the use of a public area to sell their wares. That's a pretty legitimate fee, and in most countries- it would go into the treasury.

But the BIB are pocketing the money so they're actually scamming the public.

If the protesters were actually wanting to root out corruption from the grass roots and up, protecting the vendors from the BIB would be an excellent place to start.

off track a bit here, she was not a street vendor, just one of many volenters making food for the protesters.

My bad. I assumed she was making the food for profit.

Still, if the protesters and their security apparatus allow the low level BIB to extort their own, I don't know how they can expect to make any changes to the big picture.

No. Have you a link rather than hearsay from your neighbour.
