Hi I am an Australian 39 year old female in Samui.

I have a six year old studying in Thailand and before we arrived from Australia on the 3rd of Jan 2014 my daughter received a non-immigrant ED for 90 days and I received an Non Immigrant O 90 days because I am her guardian.

My partner has a Non Immigrant B because he works here. We are not married but have a 'registered relationship certificate' which is a legal document in Australia which gives you the same rights as married couples which the Thai embassy in Australia seemed to recognise.

Our 1 year old son has a Non Immigrant O year long visa with mulitple entry which we applied for under my partners B visa. We have the documentation for my daughter and I to now apply for a years extension on our visa but I have read that I need evidence of a minimum of 500,000THB in an local account, for a minimum of 90 days.

Please excuse my ignorance but here are a few Questions for you experienced expats;

  1. I have only opened an account yesterday and so by the time my visa is up I would have only had an Thai account around 50 days. I cant deposit the 500000THB into the account until around another 10 days so I would of only had it in for around 40 days. How are my chances of still receiving the visa extension?
  2. Will my daughter be able to receive her extension even if I don't?
  3. If I don't receive my extension do I have to go to a Thai embassy in another country to apply for another non immigrant O single entry? Then in another 90 days apply for years extension (after money has been in bank for over 90 days)
  4. If my daughter doesn't receive her extension can I just take her passport with me to another country to apply for another 90 day visa or does she have to come?
  5. Are there any kind of shorter visa extensions I can get without leaving the country to give some more time for the money to be in my account?
  6. Do I just get a stamp every 90 days from Samui Immigration for my son?
  7. Should or can I instead apply for a year long non immigrant O visa based on my partner/husbands Non Immigrant B visa and what would this entail and would it mean I would have to do visa run every 90 days?

Thanks in Advance.

For the first extension as a caregiver of a child attending school the 500K baht only has to be in the bank 30 days. Your daughter can get her extension before yours without a problem.

From clause 2.11 of police order 777/2551.

(5) In the case of parents, funds must be deposited in a bank in Thailand, under the father’s or the mother’s name, of no less than Baht 500,000 for the past three months. For the first year only, the applicant must have proof of a deposit account in which said amount of funds has been maintained for no less than 30 days prior to the filing date.

If your partner has an extension of stay from immigration for working your son could get an extension as his dependent.

Best is to get your daughter to apply based on study, so you can be a dependent of the child.

You can not be a dependent of teh child if the child is a dependent of the father.

And extensions are 1.900 baht.

Samui Immigrations will try and scam you for 5.000 per extension.

Put the money in an envelope marked "FEE 1.900 baht"
