For the moment, Turkish visa can be obtained on arrival (if you are eligible), from the Turkish missions or over the e-Visa Application system (if you are eligible). Please note that visa on arrival will no longer be available as of 10 April 2014.

does that apply to EU citizens too ??? its not clear on the website ,,, if it is then turkey has shot itself in the foot

I got notified to this by a UK publication. Did some research and it seems to apply to everybody. The reviews have been positive as I guess it was a pain to get the VOA. Long lines, need a specific currency (?). It's the same price, you just need to do it in advance and then can breeze through immigration...hopefully! 5555

Gone are the days of staying there and doing those loverly visa runs to Greece and Cyprus every 3 months until they got fed up and gave me free a resident visa. Long time ago but it was a nice country then with a motorbike.

For anyone that has had to obtain a visa on arrival in Turkey will know that it creates a real bottleneck, especially at busy flight arrivals. In addition, you have to pay in either £'s for UK passport holders, Euros or $'s for other citizens. For UK citizens a £10 note was all they would accept and they have been known to refuse them with tears and writing scribbled all over them. They wouldn't accept Scottish £10 notes at all.

So, IMHO, the e-visa application is a step in the right direction and will definitely speed up the entry time on arrival.

However, Thailand is NOT on the list of eligible countries to obtain an e-visa. This is what the website says:-

Thai citizens.

Exempt from Visa. You are exempted from visa for tourist visits of up to 90 days within 180 days starting from the first entry date. Requirements to be considered for visa exemption:

Valid for touristic purposes not exceeding 30 days per entry.

For UK citizens the following e-visa terms apply:-

Arrival Date in Turkey 14 February 2014 (for example)

Your e- visa is valid from 14 February 2014 to 12 August 2014 for a total period of 180 days. Your stay cannot exceed 90 days. The cost is $20.

For other nationalities you simply input your country when you click on the apply now for an e-visa and it will tell you the terms of your visa and the amount to be paid.

Seems pretty straightforward to me and for those without visa or mastercards of their own, they can use another persons, with their approval of course. :)

According the news from my home country the e-visa requirement is delayed until November,as to many tour operators where expecting chaos as not enough people where aware of the new regulations.

That's good news in terms of visiting Turkey. I mean, they should be more friendly with the tourists so this is a step forward definitely.
