Electronics Repair shop in Bangkok?

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I have a high end computer audio interface unit for a home recording studio. (Like a high end sound card that can record multiple audio tracks to a PC).

It has a card that is plugged into my desktop that is connected by a cable to a rack mounted box that you plug the guitars and stuff into.

I had a power surge in my home a while back (lightning) and the external box doesn't work anymore... The PC card is still recognized in the system, so I know that works... I believe that the voltage regulator inside the external interface box may have been fried and if that is the case it would be relatively easy to fix for somebody who has decent tech skills.

I know that if it the failure goes deeper than the power supply my chances of getting it fixed in Thailand are slim. But I would sure like to at least check that out before I throw it out and have to buy a new one...

Anybody know a place where they could competently check out the power supply in this unit and repair it?

Preferably someplace not too far from Thonglo?

Thanks for any input...

Amorn Service in Fortune Town (Pha-Ram 9 MRT) is worth a look, top floor.

They normally handle consumer gear, but if it turns out to be an easy fix they'll cope.

"I don't want to know why you can't. I want to know how you can!"

Crossy is right.

I'd also try the back hallways at Pantip Plaza where they have dozens of kiosks salvaging parts from laptops and desktops, full time. Don't waste your time in the front sections of the mall.

They're tucked in back because they don't need to pay the higher rent for the exposure afforded by a storefront in the high rent section. I'm amazed at their operations.

I'd go to Pantip first if it's a repair issue, but Fortune Town gets the nod if I'm buying new gear. Much better organized and run, less crowded and infinitely less chaotic.

As far as the chances of success, I'd rate them as 5x as good as getting it fixed "back home". They fix anything and everything here, given the low cost of labor. Back home, they have a disposable mentality- mostly because labor is so high that it's generally cheaper to buy a new one.

There is an engineer or two in a shop beside the BTS at Phra Khanong who undertakes repairs to all manor of domestic equipment. They may be helpful.

Maybe not much use to you if you have to find a place close to hand but Zeer Rangsit has lots of outlets in it that repair computers of all makes. There are several floors of electronics, I am sure you get you machine fixed from someone in there

"high end computer audio interface unit for a home recording studio" .. you dont take that to a guy under the BTS at Phra Kanong.

Your better speaking to proplugin first, theres one at the gateway, ekkamai. They may be able to diagnose and direct you somewhere.
